If as suggested he is currently injured i would imagine that would hinder any medical and subsequent signing announcement.

Shame - we could with some good news

Pretty minor injury. Twisted his knee in training and the Argentina game just came a bit too soon for him. He was moving fine at the end of the game (as per the Martinez clip)

Obviously as soon as we sign him his lower leg will need to be amputated though.

Is gambling horrendous? I don't gamble, so dont know- hence the sincerity of the question.

One of my colleagues got roped in during Covid. Online bandit machines that pay out big money. He got hooked in when he was ~£6k up and ended up losing about £50,000 in shares he held in the business, family had to intervene, he’s had his IP and hardware blocked from accessing gambling sites, barred from bookies for miles around etc. He never so much as had a go on the Grand National before the pandemic.

Covid was horrendous for that. Paul Merson (I think) had a gambling relapse during covid too and was on about it recently. With other vices like drink and drugs you have to usually go somewhere or do something to get your fix. Plus eventually you pass out or something. With gambling it's being locked away at home on your phone until the moneys gone. It must be the worst addiction of all to be honest. That's the somewhat legitimate gambling.

I throw this in for debate, but is there really that much difference between gambling adverts and the pressure brought to bear on supporters to hand over their money to their club?

Yes, because when you give the club money you get "something" in return.  Whether it's a (potentially disappointing) day out, a shirt, or some other piece of tat your kids have pressured you into buying.

When you give money to a gambling company, it's done purely in the hope you will get that money back, and then some.  And most of the time, you don't.

I was thinking more of the pressure of helping 'your' club by giving them your money.

Yes, there are people who have had no idea their spouse or partner is addicted until the money is gone and they get told they're losing the house. Lives get torn apart and not just for the person with the problem.

I've had lots of dealings with gambling firms over an extended period of time. Not gambling per se but using their platforms. Scum sums them up perfectly. Quick to bend or even break their own terms and conditions to suit themselves and Hitler strict when it comes to trying to withhold money. The Gambling Commission are useless/corrupt and in hock to the gambling firms.

It provides nothing to society and in my opinion should be fucked off.

I'd be all for banning it, but unfortunately it's like the oldest profession, it's always going to be there somewhere. And if it's bad now, it's certainly not going to be any better driven completely underground.

It's given good livelihoods to good people like Paulie and PWS though, right?
