It did. That's literally why the goal was disallowed. Can't stand Portugal but it was the correct decision, sadly.

England fans going to a Braves game and singing Michael Harris songs is quite entertaining.

With the VAR, I think the ref's onfield decision was that the ball was played on by the defender only so it wasn't offside, hence not a definitive decision and why VAR then had to send him to the screen to change it rather then call it definitively.

Too much technology in the game. Go back to proper chalk lines, Thunderer whistles, square section goalposts and proper lace-up footballs and boots.
I'm here for that!

On this new chip/sensor technology, I’m doubtful of the accuracy. The graphic that has been used showing a clear peak on a graph is utter bollocks. If there were sensors all over the ball I might be more convinced but there’s just the one chip/sensor. How can they know emphatically? What if a fly or plastic cup hits the ball can it detect that as well after 90 minutes of ball pummelling?

I'm assuming a fly or a paper cup wouldn't set it off, but a simultaneous contact would which is why the referee was sent to the monitor to double-check it.

Sending him to view the monitor negates the technology. You’re asking him to make a judgement on what he sees entirely. That being the case he would have seen no deviation that a touch of the ball would have made.

Nope. The technology proves there was contact, sending him to the monitor is required to check what the contact was. Just like umpires check snick-o-meter to ensure that there was contact, and to ensure that the contact was bat on ball rather than, say, bat hitting the player's leg.

Dallas Police being warm and cuddly to Egypt staff as our former boy Trez tries to take a photo with a fan.

I'm not sure what your point is, sorry. The contact isn't easy to see in that video, that's why they provided the technology to assist him. That's what it's for.

I get the technology bit but fuck that’s the slightest graze of all grazes of his hair. I hate that ruined the end of the game even if technically it was right. I don’t need perfection in sport. Part of sports beauty is its imperfection. And with technology of it’s not available everywhere it shouldn’t be available. And I always think about some of the greatest or controversial reckons in the history of all sports, but especially football. They’d be ruled out along with the memories and controversy and conversation that has lasted for all time.

I get that. It clearly looks like the attacker hasn’t touched the ball and the ball itself doesn’t change direction in any way or spin differently in anyway. I’m a firm advocate of technology being used but I’m highly dubious of this tech and the graphic used to show a touch.

That said, the prospect of a game with Portugal v Spain is far more preferable than Croatia v Spain.

So long as Spain score at least twelve, otherwise we should take Menorca back off them as punishment for being useless twats.
