Depends entirely on how good of a world cup those players have. If Rogers is scoring and assisting for fun, we'll likely have a buyer lined up before the tournaments even over.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if a buyer had already been lined up.

It’s almost certainly the case.  Man Utd or Liverpool I’d guess.

We will do all our sales at the most disruptive time possible and be left scrambling around for loan players that nobody else wants.

Doubt Man U or Liverpool will have tacitly agreed to spend £100 million when they don't know who their manager is. Chelsea have to balance the books so may go relatively low-key for a while and the rules probably prevent Newcastle spending that much on a single player while Tottenham aren't exactly the most attractive option at the moment.

If he goes to another English team it will be late in the transfer window after loads of disruption and haggling and will leave us scrambling around desperately to get a replacement before the window shuts.

Unless he has a cheapish release clause we don't know about, that is.

I think the idea of a clear-out is fine and dandy - and necessary - but the problem is where we get the money for replacements. Even if Emery is still with us (and I'm increasingly of the view that he will go), we may well have make-do and mend in the summer. Yes, I'm sure we'll see Martinez, Bailey and Buendia go (along with Sancho and Elliott) but there may not be room for many more exits unless for fund-raising purposes (Rogers, Cash or Kamara).
Which leads me back to the discussion on our younger players, and why we haven't give more some game-time this season. We may be starting to rely on 2 or 3 of the academy boys next season ...

... it's all down to where we finish this season. Chumps or Euro League and we will have some scope to bring players in (because we'll represent a good move for them). If we get no European footie, we'll have more financial flexibility but less choice of good players.
We desperately need to find the next Elliott Anderson / Wharton / Rogers type of player from the Championship or in Europe.

3 years in European competition and we're having to fuck about selling our best players and gambling on championship might-be-goods?  I mean, what's the point really?

The clear out, will be as important as new players signing. If only to lower the wage bill. Lot of money draining into the pockets of deadbeats at the moment.

Well, as Bruce Hornsby once said "it's just the way it is".

my god we need to sign some players this summer who have some pace....
We can't just have attacking players who have 3 good games in 10 and can't sprint

Let me have something Dave, it's been a long day and I can't get the image of another Bailey blunder out my head...

Maybe Jamaica don't qualify, Bailey becomes our £60m 60p sale in June, and we spend the following month getting deals in place for World Cup stars like we're at a Woolworth's pick n' mix counter.

Easy, this football transfer lark.

fixed

Chelsea seem to be running a tight ship.

They are so well ran they can afford to splurge. Deservedly so.

Do the wrong thing - but admit it at a later date - means you get the full benefit and a clear advantage first time round.

Leaving you clear to engage in a new form of sharp practice at a future date of your choosing. Derisory fine not withstanding.

How many of the top clubs have loan players? not many i suggest. The system has well and truly stuffed us. Clubs loan out players who are no longer wanted pure and simple, same with us and Bailey, so why do we expect these players to be any better with us than they were with their home club. Rashford was great but under unusual circumstances, he was never going to stay with us. Luiz is doing a job for us at the moment but he wasn't wanted by his home club. Where we are is a minor miracle, but so thin on the ground are we that even a couple of injuries to our better players is a major disaster. Emery has performed miracles with very little but even he cannot turn the likes of Sancho into a game changer. I feel for Emery as his choices are limited, He isn't playing Watkins out of choice, he obviously thinks with all his failings he is a better option than Tammy. We will have a clear out but we will have to give some of them away.

I think now for what Mings, Sancho and Digne (to name a few) offer - we could replace them with players on half the wages.

Huge clearout coming I imagine?
Highly likely to go any one of age/wages/performance issues/big fee ?

Martinez
Digne
Rogers
Buendia
Bailey
Watkins
Barkley
Garcia
Onana

Very possibly(hope not)
Cash
Mings

presumably Kamara will one out until after the transfer window ends?

Elliott & Sancho loan ending

Big summer coming up!!
