Did you notice that Newcastle lost last night but moved up a place in the table? I think I preferred it when tables weren't shown until 4 games had been played, so those sort of quirks had ironed themselves out.

Pretty sure that they started the match ahead of us on points then went below on alphabetical order, then on GD, then back above us on GS, then on points, finally remaining ahead on GS. But as theirs was the only game yesterday and they finished it on the same points but worse GD, there is no way they could have gone up vs before k.o

I like the early tables because they produce little quirks like Sunderland leading, giving that little thrill of incongruity that is lost as the table sorts itself out later on (2015-16 excepted)

They don't 'mix it up', they play like they have a personal grudge against the sport and are mysteriously allowed to get away with it.

They push, shove, barge, manhandle and lunge in and somehow get away with it far too much. That Gordon challenge was Red all day long and the ref was being soft before VAR got involved.

The number of times our players were thrown about as described above last week was ridiculous. Cheating wankers.

They don't 'mix it up', they play like they have a personal grudge against the sport and are mysteriously allowed to get away with it.

Indeed, Tonali, Bruno and Joelinton is the dirtiest midfield the premier league has seen for a long time and yet they get away with a lot more than most.

Gets away with breaking the rules of the game, you mean. 'Mixing it up', euphemism for the 'mindless violence' approach that served England so well for about 50 years. If that's your vision of sport you can just hang outside a pub on the Geordie shore of a Thursday evening.

Clearly holding players, grabbing shirt/arm for about 10 seconds and blocking opponents deliberately are three of those new laws that the PL has introduced but only told a few teams about. Brentford did pretty much the same on Saturday.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot said "he is not too sure he saw a football match" in reference to Newcastle United's gameplan during his side's 3-2 win at St James' Park.

The Reds' 16-year-old forward Rio Ngumoha scored a 100th-minute winner in a breathless match during which Newcastle fought back from 2-0 down with 10 men.

Like or loathe Newcastle’ style of play but you can’t argue that it’s been pretty successful and they’ve consistently put themselves amongst the contenders for a European place since Howe was appointed.

There’s a perceived right way to play but it’s a results business, by and large Newcastle get results.

I thought it was noticeable last night that the first piece of passing, composed football Liverpool played  after they scored their second just after haft time resulted in the winner 55 minutes later.
