Add to that the plastic flags they give out for big games.

Are a few thousand season cards really that detrimental to the environment. Its more about money and controlling who has the cards.

Could get worse?

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-14935571/Man-United-season-ticket-licence.html

"Manchester United are considering charging fans up to £4,000 - purely for the right to buy a season ticket at their planned new stadium.

Mail Sport understands that a highly controversial introduction of a ‘Personal Seat Licence’ – a system commonplace in America but not yet seen in the Premier League – was one of a number of proposals presented to fans by US-based consultants CSL International.

While United officials have stressed no final decisions have been made and that they are at an exploratory stage, such a move would see supporters forced to pay thousands, before then having to shell out separately for their season tickets.

Under the system, which is often used across the Atlantic to part-fund new stadiums, fans who fork out for a PSL would then have first refusal on the seat for the next 30 years. However, should they fail to buy a season ticket they would automatically lose the licence."

£4,000 for the right to pay for a seat for 30 years, and if you don't renew, you lose it.

Wow.

Apologies if I've missed something but have the club published these new rules for submitting 8 friends with whom I can share my ST yet?  I haven't seen anything official, or indeed the steps I need to take and deadlines for doing so etc?

I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere about the cut off for having to nominate people being 31 Aug.

I was linked to two other people under the old system, but one wasn't showing last time I logged in.

To summarize......dunno

So I'd also link pointing in the direction of a definitive answer.

Also all the plastic lanyards in GA+ and corporate . Its pure BS from the club . Its all about control of ST holders and the ticket .

It’s the PL rather than Villa who have mandated the move to e-tickets. It’s exactly the same if you go to Edgbaston now and most rail tickers are similarly moving to electronic versions. It’s the way of the world and moaning at Villa for if is pointless.

And only paper if they are from South of the Thames to North or vice versa. TFL don't like the arcade readers.

I’ve received the physical card request link this afternoon:

Dear ******,

You are receiving this email because you were issued with a physical Season Card for the 2024/25 season. Please note that your card from last season will not be valid for entry this season.

As part of our transition to digital ticketing, we have invested in enhanced internet connectivity around the stadium and improved the digital ticketing experience, making it easier for supporters to access their tickets. In line with this, we have updated our approach to issuing physical season cards. The Premier League has confirmed that by the 2026/27 season, digital tickets will be the mandatory default method of entry for all clubs. Therefore, we are making changes now to meet that requirement.

Last season, we were pleased to see so many supporters embrace digital ticketing. Over 85% of season ticket holders received their tickets digitally, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Fans found digital tickets to be more convenient and reliable than physical cards, offering quicker tap-and-go entry and eliminating concerns about lost or forgotten cards.

Transitioning to digital ticketing also helps us tackle ticket touting (a concern raised by many supporters), supports our sustainability goals by cutting down on plastic and paper use, and speeds up entry on matchdays, allowing fans to spend more time enjoying Villa Park and less time queuing.

Enhancements to our Official AVFC app functionality also mean that supporters will be able to forward their tickets to friends and family or resell their tickets via our ticket exchange all within the app. Supporters will also be able to display multiple tickets in their app, making it the easier (and more practical) option for those attending with children, who do not have a smartphone, or those assisting supporters with accessibility requirements.

If you do require a physical season card, cards will only be issued to supporters who also had a card during the 2024/25 season and have a valid medical exemption or a disability that makes using digital tickets impractical. If this applies to you, you can request a physical card by completing the application form at the bottom of this email.

Important Information:

Only supporters who received this email and used a physical season card last season are eligible to apply.

All applications must include a valid medical or accessibility-related reason. If not, the request will be declined, and a digital ticket will be issued.

If you’ve used digital tickets successfully in previous seasons, you are not eligible for a physical card.

A separate application is required for each person (For example, if you're a disabled supporter and have a personal assistant, both must apply individually.)

Physical cards will not be issued before the first home match against Newcastle United.

If your application is approved, you’ll receive a print-at-home ticket via email for that match. Your physical card will be sent in the post shortly after.

Please ensure your postal address is up to date in your digital account to avoid delays ahead of the Crystal Palace home fixture.

Approved physical season cards will be issued free of charge. We are not offering the option to purchase a physical card based on personal preference this season.

Lost physical cards will not be replaced. You will need to switch to a digital ticket instead.

Not owning a compatible smartphone on its own does not qualify you for a physical card. Affordable compatible devices are widely available, and there is plenty of information on our website to help you use them with ease.

All applications must be submitted by Friday 8th August at 5:00 PM.

If you don’t apply by this time, or choose not to, you’ll receive your digital season ticket in the week leading up to the Newcastle United match.

We’ll also be sharing more information soon on our website about new digital ticketing features and how to use them.

What in the sweet name of fuck has that got to do with anything? Chris has correctly pointed out what an idiot you are, and you reply with that, as if to further underline his point.

Some ridiculous rules there...

Lost physical cards will not be replaced. You will need to switch to a digital ticket instead. - what happens if it gets nicked?

I guess Villa are no different - but it's not very inclusive for non-digital people.

The PL are not going to dictate to me, via the compliant AVFC, what I can or cannot do!

So that is it then after 30 + years of going down Villa Park it is over for me!

To be honest I don’t think I am going to miss it much, there are so many rules and regulations outside of the footballing side of things that it leaves a bad taste in the mouth!

All I wanted to do was to go down and watch Aston Villa play football but it seems you have to jump through so many hoops to do that now!

Not over the moon by it, basically buy a fancy phone or piss off seems to be gist.
If I wanted a fancy phone I would have purchased one by now. Dickwads.
Are they affordable – to buy & maintenance?
What are the minimum requirements / specification for these compatible devices?
Plenty of information on our website – so why not put a link to the instructions or tell you were to find them.
Overall, we’re being told to buy a piece of equipment that we know nothing about or have any interest in. Then somehow become competent enough to use it. It’s asking a lot of me, I’m both poor & stupid. I just want to sit on a piece of plastic for 2 hours every fortnight, why are they making that sound far from simple.
