Was only recorded few months ago, and he still seemed as sharp as a knife. We use the term "legend" far too much in this era, but Peter McParland is absolutely an Aston Villa legend who longed for us to get that eighth FA Cup success.

Along with Dixon my favourite players of the day. Remember him for his speed down the flanks. Sims, Lynn, Aldis and Baxter, those were the days of frozen toes and hot Bovril.

Sad news.
My mom, when she was alive, used to tell stories of how as a youngster she worked as a clerk at the bank where Peter had his account and how excited she used to get when he came in. He was a true gent.

He died knowing he was a legend and the last man to be part of a FA Cup winning side for us.

The legions have another recruit, standing in the front rank alongside Hunter, Ramsay, Waring and Walker. What a player, and what a truly wonderful man.

My dad used to tell me what a player he was. And i sought out the clips of the 57 cup final and read everything villa history related as a kid, he was a Villa legend.
A grand age, but still very sad. RIP HEITS

My earliest live Villa memory (I watched us win the cup on TV) is of a match, I’ve no idea of the date or opponent, when Villa were 4-0 down with not long left and pulled it back to 4-4. Peter then had a shot from the left of the penalty area and it sailed high over the bar. He made ‘binoculars’ with his fingers over his eyes and the fans howled at him. I was lucky enough to meet him this summer and talk to him and he remembered it. The word legend is used too often now but he certainly was one – and a lovely man as well. Rest in peace Peter. You have left many happy memories.
