My dads boyhood hero, and after losing Gary Shaw in September we have lost both of our hero's in the same season  :(

Poignant that he should pass on the anniversary of our last FA Cup final win (4th May 1957).

On moving from Ireland to Birmingham in the 50's my late Dad followed the Villa because of the Irish connections. Peter was his favourite player and often spoke highly of him. On Saturday afternoons, Dad would often bring five of the kids to Villa Park to give our Mom a rest!!

We remain a Villa mad family to this day.

A true legend in our household and in many thousands of others. RIP Peter.

Peter McParland and Dickie Dorsett were my dads favourites when football was proper. My dad was at the 57 final and had got the progam. About 20 years ago my dad got invited to a Villa do. He knew Peter McParland was going to be there and he spoke to Peter for a while asked if he would sign his program, which he did and my dad was over the moon about it. When my dad died my mom asked me if I wanted anything of my dads stuff. The only item I wanted was that 57 program.

My all time  Villa hero.Scoring the goals in the 57 final, being named in the 58 World Cup best eleven, mentioning my dad in his Sports Argus colum, signing his picture in my football annual and my earliest memories of Villa with him prominent down the left wing.

My dad who's now 81 has this framed and signed picture from Peter, all the more poignant today.
