Well Ramsey is £39m+£4m in add-ons.

Bailey is either $2m or $4m loan fee with an option to buy that turns into an obligation to buy if certain milestones are hit for $16 to 18m.

Garcia and Moreno would likely get about £6m each.

So more like £68-75m all said and done.

Some of them could, but not with our team as it currently is. When you see players like Lewis, Elliot, Lewis-Skelly and others of that ilk, they normally have world class players picking up their slack so their cock-ups are less noticable. I don't rate many of them above who we already have, but whilst we do have a world class coach who has lifted most of his players under him, we fall apart badly when carrying anymore then one player.

Annoying in that case if his value has only increased in the past 6 months and the rules stopped us from buying him in Jan.

"The rules" didn't force us to buy Malen and leave £20m of asset on the bench.

Sure but maybe we could only do one and not both. Rashford and Asensio on-loan made Malen less essential in the end.

I think that only looked a bit unwise because of the unexpected (maybe) availability of Asensio and Rashford.

Sure, but we don't then get to whine about us not being allowed to buy a more expensive right-back.

We made our transfer choices and it's not someone else's fault that they may not have been the correct ones.

I agree. Like this summer, we could have gone for a high churn, sold Konsa and Cash and got Bade and the Spanish RB in, and/or got big money for Rogers and Martinez and had plenty to spend. But Emery doesn’t seem like the kind of big gambler manager to take that approach - I feel like he’s fought to keep players like Kamara and McGinn instead of cashing in and rebuilding. He didn’t even really want to sell Ramsey as far as we know. That might change when the hyper-focus on getting rid of what is seen as deadwood/a drain on wages is over.

None of them have proven to be any good though? The young player who got a chance was Duran and he wanted out. Who have we let go who could do a job in a top 6 team?

Jacob Ramsey....Id still have hopes for his brother, massive season for him though. Maybe he lacks a bit of JJs drive but will be interested to see how he performs in a poor team this season. Azaz is definitely PL quality, don't think he will be at Boro by the end of the transfer window. I don't think Bogarde has the presence to be a PL centre back.

PL clubs including ours are no longer seeing academies as primarily for developing players for our first team. That's a bit sad.

So we made poor choices. That's not "the rules stopping us" from buying Mingueza.

It is a bit odd when you think about the fact we're under such financial restraints, yet none of the players we've spent £100m or so on in the last 12 months have cemented a first team spot.

Agree, I don’t think those transfers have been great.
Rogers has been the standout good value, Maatsen, Onana, Garcia Malen , the jury still out.

Fort from Barca available for €5m according to something called Sports Witness (I know, I know) and wants to come to us.

Ramsey has had a chance. He's either been injured or alright. 2 goals in 2 seasons is not a £40m player. Like Duran wasn't a £70m player. Sometimes you have to sell someone because the offer is too good, especially with the rip off rules we are having to jump through hoops to accomodate.

Agreed, suggests possibly a bit of a disconnect behind the scenes between Emery and Monchi/talent spotters. Not every signing works obviously but last January seemed muddled really. Particularly considering our brains trust must have known how tight to the wire we were financially. Signing Malen on a big contract but then bringing in Rashford and Asensio a matter of days afterwards on loan was bizarre. Suggests Emery wasn't all that convinced to begin with. I think Emery does well in all honesty to turn that around with Malen. No start yesterday again suggests he's still not convinced.
Emery made up his mind very quickly on KN and looks like Garcia too. Disasi was a disaster in that position, how difficult can it be to find competition for Cash at RB.

Maatsen Id argue was a logical signing last summer but the fact we extended Digne's contract just highlights how poor he was last season. He was surely meant to have replaced Digne (and his wages) by now. Big season for Maatsen, we could really do with pace in the team but simply has to improve defensively.

Onana is just a dud and we simply can't afford a 50m dud. Doesn't have the technical ability to play in midfield for us. Diaby was mixed in terms of his performances but you could at least see he had ability and quick feet. I'm not sure what Emery and the scouts saw in Onana. Kamara's backup!

Don't really see the point of this.

Unless he’s immediately improving the first team squad then I think we have other priorities.

I'd day the last player we bought who improved the first team was Rogers, 18 months ago. Not stellar recruitment since then.
