He is a rough diamond, unplayable at times, but like yesterday, off the pace and couldn’t do anything right. No shame in being rotated. Which is what Asensio could be used for.

Rogers has been sensational at times. It surprises me how many are quick to criticise a young player like this.
Maybe, but surely no one should be above justifiable criticism? And, his youth means he still has plenty to learn, and it would be unreasonable to expect him to be brilliant all the time.

Well yeah so the criticism should be accordingly measured.

Annoying in that case if his value has only increased in the past 6 months and the rules stopped us from buying him in Jan.

"The rules" didn't force us to buy Malen and leave £20m of asset on the bench.

I think that only looked a bit unwise because of the unexpected (maybe) availability of Asensio and Rashford.

Sure, but we don't then get to whine about us not being allowed to buy a more expensive right-back.

We made our transfer choices and it's not someone else's fault that they may not have been the correct ones.

I agree. Like this summer, we could have gone for a high churn, sold Konsa and Cash and got Bade and the Spanish RB in, and/or got big money for Rogers and Martinez and had plenty to spend. But Emery doesn’t seem like the kind of big gambler manager to take that approach - I feel like he’s fought to keep players like Kamara and McGinn instead of cashing in and rebuilding. He didn’t even really want to sell Ramsey as far as we know. That might change when the hyper-focus on getting rid of what is seen as deadwood/a drain on wages is over.
I was expecting high churn for our spine this off season, on the basis that "one more push" was not likely to lead to success with this group of players. The early signs, with Martinez and (to a lesser extent) Watkins, seemed to point in that direction. Where we've ended up (keeping the spine but offloading Ramsey) may lead to success, but doesn't feel like it was the plan, somehow.

At the end of this season what losses are we carrying forwards to next season? Fucking boring accountancy chat.

Not much on the old PSR rules I think. From the three year thing we’ve just dropped a £120m loss, and at the end of the next FY another £80m loss falls off. Then you’ve got the sales of the women’s team, Jacob Ramsey and all the infrastructure spending that can be weighed against it. Seems to me that we’ve got PSR sussed just in time to crash into UEFA’s bastard rules.

That's my feeling too. The 70% wages v turnover really hammers us when you're competing against sides with £200m plus additional income, even when we've likely tipped the £300m barrier in the past 12 months.

Shedding £120k per week Bailey, (apparently) £90k per week Dendonker, £70k JJ (cries) will help give wiggle room- not as much as we'd like, but we are where we are.

Donk is among a few who don’t impact the A-list thing though isn’t he? Emi B, Garcia, Hause, KKH, Barry etc?

Still a good thing if he goes obviously.

Does the A squad thing apply to the wage ratio as well? Surely not

He has undoubtedly been sensational.at times, but has also been very poor in games.  Might be due to his age, but there doesn't seem to be a middle ground with him, he's either very good or poor.

This is where I'm on the dark.

If that is the case, what a way to take artificial hobbling and really up it a level.

The wage costs used to calculate the wage ratio for UEFA SCR only count the wages of players in the A-list and the head coach. Transfers and amortisation costs as well I think.

I think that's a mis-reading of the calculation. It's called a List A Transfer Balance, but it's defined as the difference between the cost savings from outgoing players  and the new cost of incoming players at any applicable deadline for the club's submission of list a. It doesn't say anything about it being outgoing players on list a.

Well, not so much as I see it, as they didn’t count against it in the first place, so it wasn’t Coutinho etc who fucked us on that in the first place. I have no idea if I’m assuming incorrectly here by the way, I’m no expert.

There you go. (See the end of my previous post).
