I suppose the thing is that *if* Malen is already concerned by his playing time, *and* we were bringing in a Marmoush type signing … it’d make sense to sell now whilst his stock is high rather than wait for the summer and get derisory bids as everyone knows we’re desperate to get a player who rarely plays off our wage bill.

I think this is the thing clever selling clubs are good at - the sort we used to buy players off in the Championship. You have to sell players when they’re over performing, which necessarily looks like you’re selling the Crown Jewels as it were.

Wouldn't be surprised if Evan Ferguson was to come our way. Finally starting to score a few goals for Roma but still being openly criticised by their coach and they are linked to loads of other forwards like Malen. He needs a lot of work, his back to goal play is appalling for starters.

No way. Overrated, enjoyed the Brighton nightlife too much, got phat and is always injured or not scoring. Keinan Davis would do the role much better.

That’s the thing, losing a player who has played an important role for very little doesn’t feel great.

Will almost certainly be made perm in the summer. Doesn't look like we'll make a profit on him, mind.

Depends how you look at it.

Cost €22m plus €3m in add-ons (no idea if he triggered them).

One year amortisation - €5m?

Reportedly going for €2m loan fee and €25m (who knows, that’s the figure I’ve seen reported).

Selling Philogene paid for him.

Sure, only 21 though. Very much a project. Parrott is a much better footballer - touch, movement etc - but not sure he's physically suited to the PL. Surprised other PL clubs haven't been in for him this month.

Ferguson was shit in the Premier League.

In my view, he has failed the interview.

Mo Salah and Kevin de Bruyne failed their first round PL interviews too?

Fortunately we're not limited to signing Irish strikers.

Probably exceptions to the rule.

🚨🟡🔴 Donyell Malen to AS Roma, here we go! Deal in place with Aston Villa and player’s agents.

Malen, authorized by Villa to fly to Roma today.

£2m loan fee, £25m buy clause to become mandatory. #AVFC accept all conditions of loan deal, manager by Roma director Ricky Massara.

Let's hope there's some sort of currently-unknown master plan going on in the background.

Thought he was settling with us, like you said, a bit of a Diaby situation. Stayed a year, recouped our money on him with a lingering sense of What if (albeit, more with Diaby who started more regularly).
