In all honesty I couldn’t wait to get out of the ground today. Absolutely crap match. Just glad we have played the 2 teams with the worst away records in the division. Can’t do better than getting 6/6 points but, not great performances. Hand on heart, the way we’ve played generally this season, I’m amazed we are 5th in the league.

We’re fifth because apart from Liverpool, every team has had a wobble and period of bad results. It’s a very inconsistent table from 2nd down to about 10th. I expect Liverpool to have a wobble at some point.

It’s frankly ridiculous that after going 8 games without a win, we now find ourselves 3 points off second.

If we can find a bit of consistency (even if we don’t find last season’s fluency), then we should hopefully remain in the fight for champions league all season.  I think the current top four will probably be the top four in May, but I think 5th is definitely up for grabs, and we’re one of probably four teams capable of getting it.

The way Europe is going, 5th should be enough for Champions League this season.

McGinn MOTM for me , a solid 7/10 performance where I thought he was the best of an average bunch

That Dibling is like a budget clone of peak Grealish. Looks like Forest went to the same factory and ordered one too .

Budget? At 18 Grealish was playing in League One for Notts County. His starring FA Cup semi appearance came when he was a year older than Dibling is now, and we considered him a “kid” even then.

Jack didn’t really come into his own as a genuine star talent until we were relegated and in the Championship,

Dibling is putting in great performances week in week out in the Premier league, right now, at 18.

This may be as good as he ever gets, but if he can play like this at 18, my guess is he’ll be at a top club within a year, and a regular full international by the time he’s in his very early 20s.

Possibly , though it doesn't always work like that . Not sure what his end product is like

Difficult day. I thought McGinn and Rogers tried hard. The defence benefits from Kamara in midfield.

Southampton nearly broke away from one of our corners to score again. I can’t see why we aren’t tackling this.

From the North Stand Ollie seemed to get himself one on one on several occasions only to squander. Need to see highlights to see how good these chances actually were.

You’re taking the piss, surely? He looks quality, I’d love to have him at Villa.

Did what was necessary, stopped them doing anything. Win. 3 points. 5th.

We did ok, should’ve had a hat full but win the game. McGinn was a true leader out there today, what we’d do without him I don’t know.
One minus was the moaning and whining from some towards Philogene. He didn’t play well but is there really any point in getting on a young lads back like that?

I feel a bit sorry for Philogene it’s not his fault
he’s been promoted above and beyond his abilities i’m afraid

And I was one who thought he’d be the surprise package of this season but he’s clearly way out of his depth, but we have no alternative to when Bailey is putting in his normal piss poor offering
I thought Bailey was much improved today, looked lively and getting back to something like his proper form. Unfortunate that he seems to have injured his hamstring again.

A poor game played in filthy conditions.

We'll take the points then forget that it ever happened.

On to Leipzig.

I thought youri was awful today. Really poor. His lassing was diabolical at times.

Mcginn was excellent  my motm

Again felt philiogene had another bad game. Not sure how long this can go on with him as he has been given a lot of game and is offering virtually nothing.

It wasnt pretty bit certainly hard to play in those conditions. Sometimes you have win ugly and today was one of those

We did a really good job of preventing Matthew Le Tissier getting any space to shoot from long range and that neutralised any threat from Southampton.

He was, really good. It’s great to know that’s a position we have secured for a while.

It's almost as if losing Carabao Cup and Champions League games has no effect on our league position.  :P

Some good moments around the pitch but very wasteful decision making and execution last 15 mins.
We should have won by more - dire conditions but glad it is out of the way. 25 pts from 15 is decent return but we'll see where we are league wise after next 4 games.
