Am I right to assume that the people in charge of these deals will have looked at the finances and seen that they work, and that therefore people like me, with no knowledge, insight or control, should simply not give a fuck how much of players’ wages we’re paying?

If you assume that everyone in a position of power gets everything right then yes.

And if I didn’t assume that, what should I then do about it?

Whatever you want. Chain yourself to the Trinity Road gates and go on hunger strike until you get a meeting with our Chief Financial Officer (If we still have one) and point out what errors you think we are making.

Yeah, I think I just won’t give a fuck.

I mean, i'd generally agree with you, but the forum would be a bit quiet if we weren't to discuss such issues. Which admittedly in some cases might be a good thing.

Sure, but I don’t think ‘that’s too much!’ and ‘no it isn’t!’ are particularly fertile grounds for debate when none of us know anything.

It was quite funny watching Rashford pick up £350k a week when clearly not giving a fuck at ManU. Not quite as amusing now.

You might be onto something but maybe the club should ask our advice regardless?

As usual we come to their rescue.

“He is the son of Serbian footballer Mirko Maksimović.[17] He earned the nickname "Mesi" (Serbian Cyrillic: "Меси") as a child because of his resemblance to Lionel Messi with his distinctive long hair.”

Shame it’s not for his ability

Why buy a player on day 1 of the window when you can save a months salary if you can wait a few weeks.

So you can play them in defense rather than your best midfielder?
Haha that made me chuckle

I’m going glass half full.  Asensio and Rashford to click straight away and we finish 4th and win the CL.

I would  love nothing more to be wrong and that to happen

Demitri, you have an option here.  Why don't you try and see it optimistically - it might make you a bit happier if nothing else and what's that saying: 'a pessimist suffers twice'?

We have sold a bunch of second stringers and Duran, who could be great or could be anonymous in a few years. We've sold him for really good money and to a team that we will never be in competition win.  As far as transfers go, that's a pretty good outcome.

We're seemingly signing Rashford, a player who has lost his mojo but was pretty close to being world class a couple of years ago, and a player whose been there and done it at the highest level, but has potentially passed his peak.  Both are loans so the risk is very minimal.  We'll sign a centre half I'm sure.

I think, on reflection, it might just be a season changing (for a good reason) window where we have added new dimensions to our starting 11.  Until proven otherwise, that's what I'm going to believe.  AND it's Unai Emery choosing these players, not Steven "play Phil Collins or I'll chin yer" Gerrard, albeit we have him to thank for Mr Kamara.

A huge positive is that surely with the Champions League money and players sales we've made then post season we can have a real go at it rather than sign players from Luton and Hull. With no Europe next season it could be another great one.

You're writing off qualifying for Europe this season?  We played a crap game yesterday, but I'm astonished anybody would think we aren't in the mix for some kind of European slot.

I think we will finish 7th/8th. That could get you conference league next season or possibly not. I don't think we've been anywhere near good enough for top 6 this season and can't see that changing unless the loan gambles come off.

The worry is losing any/all of Emi/Bouba/Ollie if we aren't in the Champions League again.

Maybe we shouldn't sign players from Boro, Hibs or championship Brentford either.
