Leaving things to the last minute takes away a lot of leverage you may have . Also sends out a signal of poor planning . We surely have to be in for a CB , it would be gross negligence to not sign one.

Put it this way, Id have far preferred giving Buendia more of a chance than getting in Rashford. Amorim has exposed him as the worst professional in the league, not that it was much of a secret beforehand.

Even mild mannered Jamie Redknapp saying last night that Rashford doesn't even deserve this chance with us.
Redknapp s comment can look like Rashford has something to prove, which must be a good thing if he is coming and do feel it like that.

Could turn out to be a good window if we land a decent centre back.
Just like we’ll judge Monchi properly in 2 years time, rather than two weeks.

Very true. If we ride out this transition period keeping our head near the top, have a good cup run with, so far a very good Champions League and finally get out of this financial burden which has held us back, that’s the time to judge.

It’s nothing to do with poor planning.
It’s about timing.
Clubs dont decide they need a player in the last 48 hours of the window, and then try and go and get him.
It’s about availability, other players moving, negotiations, and ultimately, brinkmanship.

Why buy a player on day 1 of the window when you can save a months salary if you can wait a few weeks.

For instance, anyone who thinks we decided to go after Rashford on Friday and land him in Saturday is seriously delusional.
I suspect talks have been going on for weeks.
You dont negotiate a multi million pound deal for an elite athlete, in a couple of days, whether that is Marcus Rashford or a centre half.

Excellent points. We’ve managed to be where we are whilst creating a budget surplus.

It’s annoying now but we’re creating an environment where we won’t need to fire sale “Luiz” anymore and can grow sustainably.

I see it that we are actually doing it? Were certainly way off last season first half of the season, however we’ve played some great games in Europe, we’re not far off the top four and our finances are starting to look healthy.

Of course we’ve had some terrible set backs, which happens during a transition period. Maybe a little patience is required?

The way people go on its pretty clear they do not consider this at all.

Great news on the financials but we can’t play a stack of cash at centre half, can we?

That's why the planning stage should begin in November / December . Rashford and ascensio on Feb 2nd smacks of panic buys

Great news on the financials but we can’t play a stack of cash at centre half, can we?

It would have given Carlos competition, I'm sure.

A tall enough stack, I'd give it a go.

It’s difficult after another shit show yesterday.
I would have thought that qualifying for next years CL would be the priority, that does not require patience it needs getting more than 1 point against West Ham and Wolves.

A stack of cash would be more use than Konsa this season. There's a chance that a long ball would bounce off it rather than Konsa letting it bounce.
