If it ends up like this..

In
Asensio, Rashford, Malen, Disasi, Garcia

Out
Duran, Buendia, Philogene, Carlos, Gauci,

Surely we're happy?

With a healthy balance sheet and P&L.

2 things. Firstly there are 2 massive ifs there with Asensio and Disasi. Are they here? Or nearly here - only about 40 hours to go.

Secondly Rashford - yeah he could be half as good as McGrath and we'd love that or he could be Collymore/Drinkwater give me one chance and not really giving a shit anymore. That is more my worry.

He hasn't been putting in hard yards in training so how many minutes in many games are we going to get. He will in effect be Duran's replacement - unlike Duran he hasn't played well for 18 months.

Asensio and Rashford appear to be nailed on. And whether it's Disasi or someone else, we're definitely signing a centre-back of some sort.

If it is Disasi, he's a right sided defender isn't he, so if he had come in sooner, either him or Konsa would have had to play on the left which is why I think he's gone with Kamara maybe  knowing that Mings was only going to be out for a couple of games.

To be completely honest - I think its sensible.  We have kept our powder dry and if one of Rashford or Asensio come off, then were ok.  Malen seems ok so far, looks promosing for a squad player.

We can the regroup in the summer and see were we go.  The dont see Rashford or Asensio being here next season - wages are too much.  But they have some quality that if we can bring out may help us over the rest of the season.  Feels like a sliding doors season - we really need to finish top 6 as I think well struggle to keep our better players if we dont get at least Europa League.  We need to somehow get a run of 5 wins or similar but it just doesnt seem to be happening.

Feasibly we dont know now if were likely to be planning for another season in UCL, Europa, or potentially having to re-group to go again - so the last thing we want is players on big wages that arent 100% our most important players - so these loans make sense.

It reminds me a lot of the season we came up - we dont seem to know our best team, and injuries, loss of form and distruption just seems to stop us forming any momentum - hopefully well get it together in last 3rd of the season.

Bailey and Konsa complete loss of form is the most harmful thing - probably more so that anything else.

You know he’s on similar wages right?

No i didnt know that. Are we also paying 70% of his wages too?

We’d be paying all of his I assume as they’re not desperate to get him out as far as I know.

If we loan Rashford and Ascencio, thats a lot of money on wages I'd guess? Hope non of the current players have one of those 'guaranteed highest paid player' deals.

I'd sign pretty much any fucker that can allow Bouba to get back into midfield.

It seems to me this strategy is focussed very short term on having a crack at the champions league and FA Cup. Realistically with conventional transfers we aren’t going to win them, but we are taking a punt on Rashford and Asensio playing to their highest standard and taking us deep in the cups. If we crash out these are only loans, so we can replan in the summer based on which European competition (if any) we are in next season.

One thing is for sure which hasn’t helped our defence this season is we’ve been far from clinical and we’ve wasted too many opportunities. I don’t mean hitting the target, but making the wrong decisions when in a promising attack. Our forward play just hasn’t quite worked. Maybe these new signings, will reignite us.

Yet Emery constantly says the premier league is most important. If we don't get a run goingnsoon the top 5/6 will be out of reach and the league campaign will fizzle out and then what motivation will these 2 very expensive loanees have .

To win the Champions League (with the FA Cup as a bonus).

That’s my view too. We’re gambling with some huge short term investments hoping they come in.

The upside is massive (CL football again?) and we’ve mitigated the downside by only committing to loans.

Could turn out to be a good window if we land a decent centre back.

Despite our inconsistent league form we’re only four points away from the Champions League places. All things are still very achievable

It's getting to the stage where our most realistic chance of being in the Champions League next season is to win it this season, could definitely be the case if we get through the R16.

Indeed. I’m reloading news sources as much as the next person, but it’s still a truism that you can really only tell how good transfers are in hindsight.

Just like we’ll judge Monchi properly in 2 years time, rather than two weeks.

Put it this way, Id have far preferred giving Buendia more of a chance than getting in Rashford. Amorim has exposed him as the worst professional in the league, not that it was much of a secret beforehand.

Even mild mannered Jamie Redknapp saying last night that Rashford doesn't even deserve this chance with us.
