If he really wants to play and get his career back he could start by saying he would take a pay cut to any new club.
Don't hold your breath.

I'd fear for Unai's job if Rashford came in.* Right now the man is poison, let West Ham have him. Plus, he'd seriously believe he's too good for us. There's a reason there isn't a queue of clubs willing to either buy or take him on loan.

*Slight exaggeration but he's certainly played his part in the sackings of Man U's managers. Google 'Player FC'.

I think this transfer window has been a huge wake up call for Rashford. Unfortunately, I think he’s still hitting the snooze button.

When a new manager comes in (the latest guy up there) and your first move is to jet over to the USA for a basketball game rather than coming in for a fresh start and try to hit the ground running, you have to question if he has any desire whatsoever to be a serious or any type of footballer.

I do not believe Rashford has any interest in playing any more. I think he’d happily just sit out his contract doing nothing and then retire.

Harsh view for some, but I believe this.

As ever, I agree with you, Leon. Barca have just announced they don't want him. He's had five weeks to find a new club but he was absolutely deluded to think Barca would want him and they were his level. Off the field he's done some great things I really admired (his work for children in poverty and the homeless) but right now I fear for his mental health.

Even with Barca, I doubt he’d be getting ahead of Raphinna. Which says alot about where his heads at to think it would be all flowers and roses by moving to a club that already has a better and more hard working player in his position and who struggles to put money in the meter for, well, much of anything right now. No way he’d just walk right in. I think he liked the idea of Barcelona, not the reality. If he really wanted to play, he’d be elsewhere on loan by now.

Barcelona did want him, they can't register him.

Why should he do that?

Why should he do that?

Because his wages make him impossible for the vast majority of clubs to sign. If he actually wants to play football, and won't make it happen for his current club, taking a wage cut would give him way more options for a move.

If he doesn't want to play and get his career back on track then he's free to carry on as he is.

Players signed #OnThisDay for #AVFC:

Craig Gardner (2005)
Shaun Maloney (2007)
Simon Dawkins (2013)
Yacouba Sylla (2013)
Michael Bradley (2011)
Neil Taylor (2017)
Scott Hogan (2017)
Lewis Grabbon (2018)
Frederic Gilbert (2019)
Tyrone Mings (2019)
Tom Carroll (2019)

Didn't both the Gardeners come through our youth system?

Well, it depends. If he signs for, say, Villa and still keeps all his wages, then he'd have been mad to arbitrarily decide to give half his salary away just to help Man U.

That’s why I said, any new club.
He would be a fool to drop his wages at Manu.

If he signs for Villa on loan, we will be his new club and he won't have lost any money. Given that this seems a very real possibility, I'm struggling to see why he'd be better off deciding to tear up his contract to sign for say, Fulham, for half the salary.

We've signed loads of good players during the winter transfer window. The very last one we signed was Morgan Rogers. No idea what someone is gaining from that list. Especially as we had different managers for all of them.

I think the point of the post was about it being the last day (or near enough) of the window, to highlight some of the last minute trolley dash desperation, rather than just January signings. Quite interesting and amusing, I thought.
