Right-back and centre-back are our most pressing needs at this point, surely? There's no point bringing in a top striker just to have him sit on the bench.

If we are going to recruit a forward, mind, it should be another tricky winger. We don't do nearly enough pointless nutmegs.

As things stand, we have García, Nedeljković, Cash and arguably Konsa (subject to a new centre-back coming in, which obviously is a pressing need).

I think it's unlikely we're about to bring in another one even if Ned goes out on loan.

Back up striker... who is realistically on the list? We'd be pretty attractive to a lot of options now.

🚨🇫🇷 One more club has called today for Mathys Tel: Aston Villa have also asked for deal conditions.

Jhon Durán leaves to join Al Nassr and Villa are in the market for new striker, with contact made for Tel as @FabriceHawkins reports.

There are currently 7 clubs involved.

Al Nassr or El Tel? Even Venables would have struggled with Durán.

Just read on his Wikepedia page that Tel started his career as a centre back, kills 2 birds with 1 stone getting the French Paul Warhurst in.

If we do sign anyone else - I would really like it to be someone thats good.  This approach of selling are best players and then buying ones that arent as good hasnt done us any favours.

Yes Beard you have cracked it there, let's sign good players. Can't believe nobody thought of this before.

I've just done an extensive scouting mission on Tel (watched 2 minutes on youtube), and it's now a no from me.

Plays on the left, and is right footed, we've got Ramsey or Rogers for that position, prefer a left-footer on the right.

Can a deal be off if it was never on? Is the Messi deal off too?

If we were to sell Duran and buy a prospect from an already relegated team, I’d be hugely deflated.  The only acceptable reason to selling Duran is if we are bringing in a genuinely brilliant player who can play at the same time as our other genuinely great players (so long as they are still at Villa tomorrow).

The homegrown/ English factor is still a thing for European competition.

So I wouldn’t be totally stunned if we went for someone like Delap or one of the other England U21 forward options in the summer.

From what I’ve seen of him Delap generally has a good all round game similar to Ollie, o think that would be a good move for both parties, depending on the price.

I assumed he was talking about the Saudi deal before Duran was linked for the move. It was one or the other.

Delap looks a handful, but I want to see him play a few more games first, I think he played wide for Hull last season, but he's been a revelation playing through the middle, so we might be back to the "can they play together scenario" with Watkins, he'd cost a bit as well wouldn't he ?

Tel and Nypan both in would be fantastic and set us up with an incredible set of young attacking players.
