Yep, it seems silly to me. Almost negligent.

It’s not that tough. It’s just pretty poor.

We dont know for sure though. We could ahve had a verbal agreement  eveeything agreed play does u turn what can we do?
10m for a out of favour player who is on big wages and over 30 can see why club accepted it.

But the club needs to hav6w  someone in before the next league game now

From something Matt Maher from the E&S has posted from Emery's post-match Diego Carlos wanted to leave.

We've got two left footed CB's and both are injured at the same time.

How many clubs have three or four of first team quality ready to drop straight in.

It would knobble most sides.

Thing is ultimately it doesn’t matter how close we were - whatever the route we chose to sell our only fit senior back-up centre half without a replacement signed. As a result we ended up with Digne at centre-back today. He was dreadful and it also robbed us of our best left-back playing his best position. That went along way to us not winning the game, it’s a fuck up.

Well, that's that then. Juan facking Foyth.
Juan facking Foyth, you're just a Juan facking Foyth.

Unai admissions
"Monchi (sporting director) and the club are looking at different players, the profile

Of course I know Juan Foyth because I worked with him. He is one player, with his quality, he can unite and play with the qualities and the performance we want to add in the squad.”

We were linked with Barcelona’s Araujo in the summer.  Time to revisit that?  Only played a handful of matches this season and Barca need the money.

Unai said this:
This transfer window is not easy, we did not want him to leave but he decided to leave because he accepted an offer from Turkey and we’re trying to get one centre-back to replace him.

He’s not the be all and end all - I’ve been vocal on that point. But him going off and Digne going to centre back really stuffed us today. We lost our heads and composure entirely after that.

Sure, Digne at CB was not something any of us had on our bingo cards for this season, but Mings was injured in or around 35 minutes into the game. We should have been 2 or 3 nil up at that point. We should have been able to withstand their fightback, even if we conceded a goal with our makeshift back line.

Carlos going and Mings picking up an injury while Pau is still out is extremely bad luck, but we have a whole heap of problems on the pitch at the moment. Understandable that in the match threads or immediate aftermath people will look for one thing to pin their frustration on, but realistically we're in a dangerous position at the moment and our season could come undone entirely in the next couple of weeks.

It's where we are going to miss having someone like a Callum Chambers.  Nowhere near first choice, but you know you're going to need him to fill in for the odd game at some point in the season.

Jacob Tanswell, on 1874 podcasts mentioned Digne at left centre back about a month back. Whether he’d seen him train there or UE mentioned the possibility I’m not sure. It’s not something I’d want to see for a run of games so I hope we get someone in who naturally plays in that position.

There was some experimentation with Digne at centre half in pre-season if I remember.

I am guessing Unai moved Digne to left centre back because he’s more mobile than Bogarde.

The goal came from an overload on Cash at the back post, Digne started shakily but grew into the role as did Konsa with him. Maatsens terrible though.

In the last week of the window my wishlist is now 2 centre halves if 1 of them is Foyth, because well, he's as injury prone as they come and we will need another one, plus a midfielder. If that midfielder could be Douglas Luiz, great. It solves so many issues. Mainly control, ability to play a pass and an ability to drive the side forward alongside Kamara. If it's not him, then I want a proper 10, that can be creative and take the burden off Rogers when he's struggling like he did today

I suspect we might get one centre half and that will be it.  We've got players to cover the other areas you have mentioned.
