I am guessing Unai moved Digne to left centre back because he’s more mobile than Bogarde.

No, Emery said it's because he likes to build with a left footer there. Digne was the best option.

We obviously need a CB, or two depending on how Mings is, but we'd switched off long before he went off today. Having Carlos or not having Carlos is irrelevant to how badly we played for all bar 15 minutes of that game.

While we're at it, Mings has cost us 6 points in the CL. So it's not like he's the be all and end all of our defence(or whole team) as some people would like to have us believe.

Where do you get 6? 2, surely?

I think he's just stating 6 because the two errors meant we lost, but yeah, it's 2 points.

Could have moved Kamara back and brought Bogarde into central midfield.

I thought Kamara had a great game. Yes we could have moved him to CB but we’d have been weaker in midfield. It’s a difficult one.

OK, that's fair. No guarantee we would have won those games, but if people can insist we fall apart without him, I'm going to call it 6 points.

Oh, I totally agree with you about the awesomeness of Kamara last night, but as soon as Mings was injured we were always going to have to make compromises. Digne has brilliantly at LB this season, and Maatsen has had a mare, so the compromise we made was a double-whammy.

Romano

Arsenal, City Group (Girona with future move to Manchester City) and Aston Villa have all presented their project to Sverre Nypan.

Decision up to the player who’s taking his time to visit club and pick the best option.

I might be biased but I’d definitely pick Villa.

I would imagine him thinking he’d get in the team quicker would be our USP. Not saying that will swing it though.

The Girona > Man City option must be pretty attractive too.  Games at a decent level, then graduate to to top table if you can.

In a way we should mirror it with Vitoria and Real Union, just without the cheating.

As a one (or twice) off we might have to wear it.

But we lose too much in the middle of the park if it’s any more than that.

In my opinion a good 70% of our problems as a team at the moment stem from midfield and have since Kamara got injured last season. As such the idea of losing him from the middle of the park for 10 minutes scares me, let alone a few games. Onana has proven to be made of glass and doesn't influence a game at all, while we lose so much with Rogers at ten rather than Tielemans, because Rogers is much much better carrying the ball from deeper, wider areas and getting us on the front foot, and is often crowded out in the middle. Barkley is out best option next to Kamara, but he's not in the same league as Dougie. Newcastle are so good this season because Tonali and Guimares are exceptional and protected by a thug, and have a striker that scores most of his chances. We're struggling so much because the balance in midfield is all out of whack.

How many games have Torres and Kamara played in the same team this season. This combination has a lot to do with our control (or lack of it) in games this season.

Kamara played midfield by himself in the second half. Tielemans powder puff out of possession and tired badly. Digne was probably the right call but struggled.

Emery could have started Bogarde next to Kamara though. Despite the injuries. I don't think he has managed the squad all that well lately including subs.
