Let's hope he's better than Alpay was.

Alpay was generally pretty good before his head got turned. Hopefully he turns out to be less of a massive twat than Alpay.

Sergio Ramos is  his idol - if he 's that good, then we've signed a gem.

Alpay was good until the turkey - england game where the media absolutely turned on him

Nah he went shit after World Cup 2002 when he returned thinking it was a matter of time before he had his pick of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Eventually signed for... Incheon United.

Just thinking this morning - and I am not saying it’s the way to do things, but the two clubs who were largely ridiculed for signing so many players - Forest and Chelsea - are having spectacular seasons.

Makes you think.

Just seen that a London paper (Evening Standard) is claiming that Chelsea are confident of getting Emi Martinez - this cannot be true?

I wouldn't be totally stunned if he formed part of their (or many better sides) vision of what they need to push on.

Chelsea, Yanited, Tottingham and even Bayern on a downturn have fairly wank goalkeepers that need replacing.

If he considers a move at all (and I'm not saying he will) it will be to a definitive upgrade and pretty much a CL regular. Which discounts the first three at a stroke, based on the last few years.

Surprised it's the Standard pushing that story, not the Evening Mail.

When it comes to Martinez, I'd assume it could all hinge on how we finish the season. If we go out of CL at the first knockout stage, and don't finish in CL spots for next season, he may well be tempted by offers, if they come, from a team like Chelsea. They're competing for the league now, and will at the very least be in the CL next season. Who knows how stable they are, and there's no guarantee they won't go to shit again, but I could see how they'd be appealing to a keeper of all positions.

Alpay started well but then it became apparent how poor his positional play was. Annoyingly, he would then blame his teammates for his own mistakes.

My Leeds-supporting brother-in-law has heard rumours of Buendia going there on loan. I could see it.

Unless it has a guaranteed fee in the summer involved, fuck that.
