We play some cracking stuff at times in every game. If we could sort the defence out we'd be unbelievable.

Emi should have done better for the first goal. Not been completely at the races so far this season but still wouldn't trade him for another keeper in the World.

Torres is classy. Got bullied a little physically but you don't play a lot of forwards like DCL these days. Konsa was okay. Not his best game.

Bogarde I was impressed with. Didn't do anything too standout but was disciplined positionally, tidy and composed. Knackered after 80 minutes so maybe should have gone off. Digne very good.

Tielemens was good. Onana struggled after a couple of challenges, including the one that led to their goal. Barkley came on and made a difference I thought. Very composed.

I love Rogers. The end product isn't quite there but when he figures that, he's going to be incredible. Still, those bursting runs are a joy to watch.
Ramsey was okay but could have been a bit more adventurous with taking players on.

Ollie isn't there but he was a bit sharper today. Took his goals well. It was a good game to come along when you're a striker struggling for goals.

Duran is a mercurial joy to behold. Plays 20 minutes, maybe could have had a hattrick. In fact, the header was the easiest chance he had and he fluffed it but I'll let him off because that goal wasn't too shabby. Never a dull moment with this kid.

Jadon needs a few words in his ears about silly challenges but he'll learn.

I worry about us getting caught with long balls and from set pieces and better teams will punish us if we don't tighten up.

In its own way this was as Big Boy a win as a routine 3-1. How many times has it been us, drain-circlers going 2-0 up against the run of play at a real contender, only to leave with nothing? Everton will feel they should've scored more, and that's fair, but again we know that situation all too well. We won, and we won with a sense of inevitability. Some clean sheets would be nice, but for now the win is the only important thing.

Result aside, that was not nearly good enough.

Too many players not quite 100% yet. Rogers could have had three but shot them all straight at the keeper. Watkins is still with his niggles, no Bailey even though he hasn't had a great start. It's early days and we're getting the points whilst trying to introduce new players and systems.

Never thought I'd ever say I'm a big fan of Barkley but he really suits and improves the way we play. He moves the ball quicker than Tielemanns and Onana plus he's brilliant at finding space for himself, always available. Onana has a habit of marking himself out the game.

It was no classic today, at times it was so slow but right now I'm delighted with the 3 points. We made hard work of it but as Bessie Banks once sang, the best is yet to come.

We are now such an incredibly professional football team. So many leaders, all commanded by one of the best managers in the world.

Result aside, that was not nearly good enough.

73% possession, 17 shots, 8 on target. We're iffy defensively but to say that isn't nearly good enough is utter nonsense.

Agree. It’s a ludicrous statement - though if we defend like that against Bayern ….

Name a better struck shot than Duran’s goal. Don’t say Savo, Jhon’s is better.

Only better struck shot I've ever seen at VP was that Paul Scholes goal against us.

And just about every Matthew Le Tissier goal.

Good fight back, and some lovely play. Very good that Ollie got a brace and Duran another sensational goal.

But bloody hell get more resilient in defence.

Even at 2-0 I thought we'd win as long as we got one before HT.

It was always a potential banana skin. We've had it pretty easy against Everton since coming back up (in the Prem anyway). Everton have lost their first 3 games. Everything pointed to a Villa win, and as we've seen innumerable times before that almost makes you wanna bet your mortgage on the other team doing the unexpected. Saying that, even after they were 2-0 up, we'd been so commanding (albeit a little too slow in pace), I still expected us to get back into it. We had more than enough good chances to score at least 5-6 today.

We absolutely need to improve but it wasn't a lucky win by any stretch and we controlled all but 5 minutes of the game. We won't play many as poor as Everton, nor anyone who'll defend that deep against us (which is also something we can struggle with).

If we can Keep Jhon happy for another 12-18 months we have Ollie's natural successor at the club

That must be the plan.  As Ollie ages we can phase in Duran.  European qualification will be vital for that so they can both start 20-30 games.

Duran's goal reminded of Savo's at Wembley but with 10 times more power and 10 times closer to the top left hand corner.

And Barkley was fantastic when he came on. Kept the ball and distributed it really well.
