The advantage should be more money for each league position and swerving the playoffs. After that no seeding, all in a velvet bag and hope for the best.

However brackets in the latter stages have pretty much been a thing for multiple years including 1982.

And it should have been a velvet bag every previous year.

Stories today that UEFA are looking at the seedings after the tables because Arse are playing Real away second leg even though they finished top 8. They want the teams who finish top 8 to have even more advantage in the knockout stages. Personally I don't think it matters. Out of the teams who finished top 8, only 4 are still into the knock-out stages anyway even when they had the "advantage" of playing home second leg.

And finishing that high gives them more money AND more association points anyway.

If they wanted it to be a real advantage then they should change it to a single leg.

Agree with this. Also don't see any harm in giving extra incentives to teams who finish higher up, it means teams will have more to play for at the end of the Group Stage which means fewer dead rubbers.

This season there wasn't too many dead rubbers in the top 24 anyway. I think only three teams had definitely qualified going into the last week and only Liverpool put out a weakened team and still finished first because Barca couldn't beat Atalanta.

Don't disagree. I still think a more varied draw with one legged ties would be more exciting. Rather than just two potential opponents, the top half teams in each round based on league position get seeded and home advantage so you'd have lots of potential opponents and everyone would be desperate to finish as high as possible in the group stage.

Personally no. Why should Liverpool have every match apart from the final at Anfield? Or Arsenal have every match but the semi and final at Emirates? Whilst the league had a few shocks, there was still four "big" teams in the top four who you are arguing should be given almost byes all the way through. And then what happens if a "smaller" team get through against those odds by winning. Should seeded teams be shuffled?

Yeah, maybe you could have it like that. I'm not really a fan of pre-drawn draws though, if that makes sense. Prefer a new draw every round. I wouldn't necessarily have one leg every round, but it should definitely be one game in the round of 24, IMO, to reward teams that finish higher up. Teams in the top eight already have the reward of getting a bye.

Weren't that what you were envisaging when stating that their should only be one leg per round in the knock-outs and the team who wins the league is given home advantage? So going on this season, Liverpool would have every match bar the final at home if they got through, and assuming they lost out to PSG, we would have only played in Paris because PSG should have inherited Liverpool's seeding.

Now that we're gone, the important thing is that Arsenal don't win.

I don't really care how they do the seedings/brackets next season as long as we're in it.

If Arsenal beat PSG they'll deserve to win it. I personally think PSG will go all the way.

I actually think Inter will win it, But tough to call against any of them still in it. They all have strong strengths and weaknesses. Barca showed in their legs that they can score for fun, but they were just kept in massive check last night in Dortmund.
