Presumably there's an Emery press conference today and he'll be asked about the Champions League squad?

FRom press conference,Aston Villa manager Unai Emery confirms Andres Garcia and Donyell Malen will be left out of their European squad.

Under UEFA rules, clubs playing in Europe can only register a maximum three new players into their knockout stage squad from their league phase roster.

"The decision we had to take yesterday and they are out - Andres Garcia and as well, Donyell Malen," he explained.

"It wasn't a good decision that I had to take but I spoke with Andres and I spoke with Donyell to tell them the decision."

Shame for both but I blame UEFA for their stupid rules.

It's as we thought then and seems like the best outcome to me.

I bet that was an interesting conversation with Malen as I would think he would have seen champions league as an incentive to join, then the goalposts moved and Rashford came in.

Do we get to deduct the wages of the players we are unable to use, pro rata, from our FFP calculations?

Oof, bit of a kick in cock for Malen given he said he was coming here to play in it.

I possibly would have done the same though.

Hmmm I doubt Malen is going to be best pleased.

I'm sure they'll have worked things out with him. It's a shame but a mix of Duran wanting out and the silly UEFA rules kinda forced our hand.
