Away goals is totally out of date, glad it's gone. Not because of the impact on us but because it encourages teams to play defensively on front of their own fans, which is fucking boring.

I think opposite- it encourages teams to score  goals away from home not sit back for the draw and then try beat them 2nd leg at home. It made the 2nd leg more interesting

That was the theory, but it rarely worked out like that. It always seemed arbitrary nonsense to me. Why not left footed goal? Goals by players with facial hair? Load of nonsense. Just give us penalties.

Exactly.

If it was goals by guys with crappy tattoos and top knots, the Leeds side of 22/23 would be Champions of Europe.

Chumps League winnings thus far.

We miss out on being at the top because our 5 and 10yr coefficients are so poor. Just shows how the rules are rigged to maintain the status quo and support the SuperLeaguers.

City, PSG, Real, Liverpool and Bayern all earn c. €40m just for turning up. We get €19.85m in comparison.

Performance points becoming more important:
🔸 each win is worth €2.1m, each draw €0.7m
🔸 KO bonus (€1m for KO playoff, €11m for R16)
🔸 Placement bonus (currently €0.29m for last place, +€0.29m for each place higher), so coming 8th would earn €8.41m

The Real Madrid chairman was still moaning about it. Not because of the extra games, but because they can make more than that playing friendlies.

Unfairness, perhaps. Not sure on corruption though being as they have stated teams with a bigger market pool and good 5 and 10 year records get more. Surely it is corruption if they paid them the extra money behind the scenes.

However if you are just complaining the big teams get all this extra money because they are so big, Leipzig got 29mil. Mainly because they are a German team who have done reasonably well in Europe for the last 5 years. But that is more then Real Madrid who won it twice during that time. We got almost 18mil just for being English. If we stay competing in Europe, then we would be on the high 20's low 30's as well.

Its corruption  because as its been said its rewarding teams for historic performances.  Its bad enough they got advantages previously with seedings but this on top? Its abit of a mockery to everyone who isnt in the elite club. The system is designed to shaft clubs like ours

Still not corruption. England only has four places in the Champions League as a "reward" for historic performances.

Between that and the changes in the competition format which is massively more advantageous to us than the old system, there's probably no club in Europe who has benefited more from "the system" than us.

Maybe Brest.

Well no, that just sounds like unfairness again. But if you want to, write to the club and ask them to return 15mil or give it to charity because you think it is corruption. I reckon we have benefitted by about that much just for being English and probably only deserve about 2-3 mil for our own accomplishments in Europe last season.

And also, as mentioned that "elite" club Leipzig got many millions more then the "elite" clubs Arsenal and Juve. And even slightly more then the team who have won it twice in the last four years, Real Madrid. See UEFA trying to pay off Big Wings suppliers.

Good points, well made.

On a similar note, I get a bit fed up with the whining and defeatist attitude of our fans (albeit mainly on Twitter) about PSR. Let’s just get on with it. As a PL club, we have a huge financial advantage over almost every club in the world, which allows us to quite easily assemble a squad of 25 brilliant footballers. After that it’s up to the coach, and we can also afford a brilliant one of them.

I understand how PSR is something of a stitch up, but I think we can overcome the disadvantages with great coaching and recruitment - and clever sales. Maybe a few rebel clubs could band together and get PL rules changed to suit us better, but then we’d just bump into the UEFA squad-cost rules and we’d be whining and defeatist again.

I did that simulation and filled in all the results twice... it had us missing out on qualifying both times, one by a point and one by goal difference (had us on 17 for both). I'm probably just terrible at predicting, but I'm not buying the 64% probability that 16 points will be enough. I'll do it another 98 times to get a better idea.
