Interesting seeing players like Digne, Cash, and Carlos celebrating last night. They're players a lot assume will leave, or should leave in the summer. They may not even get to play CL for us. You'd think at this point in the season they'd have been made aware of Uni's plans for them. Maybe they're all staying?

Even if they do leave (and I don't think any of them will), pretty much every one of their contracts will probably have a "qualifying for the Champions League" bonus in it.

And they're celebrating their professional achivement. Chambers looked to be having a lovely old time as well, and there's no chance he's going to be playing any Champions League football for us.
Yeah, I think qualifying for the Champions League puts a slightly different focus on it personally.  We can realistically keep Moreno + Digne now, they're a strong pair of left backs to have and Digne's wages will be less problematic with CL cash flowing around.  Likewise Cash, I could see us adding another RB but keeping him on, at least for next season.

Carlos is maybe the odd one there as it sounds like Milan were/are quite keen on offering us a load of cash for him, and he doesn't seem to overly fit with the way Emery sets the team up.  Again, I don't think it's necessarily critical that we flog him but I could see us selling Carlos and bringing in another central defender.  That'd give a back 4 of something like:

Cash / ? - Konsa / ? - Mings / Torres - Moreno / Digne

Which'd look pretty tasty to me, capable of being strong on two fronts simultaneously.

As one man said "Would you like to bet against us",

Quite a few on here did. They lost.

If we get Lille in our group it would be nice to twat them out of existence just to confirm our superiority
they were a good side and we got lucky getting past them.

I would tweak one thing looking at the format - the 9th to 24th should be a one off game.

Those finishing 9th - 16th having home advantage.

Still on pins that we've done it but the reality is that we need to invest hugely in the squad while somehow staying within the latest financial constraints. Notwithstanding the cash injection of being in the CL there is still a huge outlay needed to be competitive or even just to keep pace at all. We wanted it, we got it, and now we have to pay for it - all of us...

We're in. Girona first for me please!
You took a chance there mate, starting the thread at 9.56 when there were still 3 minutes of added time left. Didn't you fear that the extra-ordinary, sensational goal machine that Ange has assembled will rip through mancity and score 3 goals?

By the way the Ange's team has scored only one more goal than Conte's.

Good idea. Gives a real advantage to those higher and reduces number of games.

Will it still be possible for some teams who don't make it into the last 16 of the Champions League to move into the Europa Cup, or has that been done away with now?
No. This season there is no parachute at any stage.

Is it 8 teams, 2 from each pot?
So how do they decide Home and Away?
Is the same country rule still there?

Yes
The draw will presumably incorporate the home/away split across all the pots, could end up being a bit complicated  but the outcome is straightforward enough.
You can't play teams from your own association in the league stage.

Be nice to draw Real and Milan in a way. 2 biggest clubs we've never played.
