I know what you mean, but we wouldn't benefit. Last time they reduced the size of the leagues, not one club reduced their season ticket prices. Can you see Chris Heck saying "only seventeen games this season, we've knocked a hundred quid off"? He'd be more likely to say "a higher percentage of our home games are now category A, we've put the prices up by two hundred each... bargain".

The Premier League should absolutely not be eighteen teams max. We were at the bottom not so long ago, let's not turn into one of those twatty arrogant clubs that thinks the whole league should be based around their needs.
It absolutely should be. With a PL2 of 18 teams also and a much better share of the wealth. Less is more in terms of quality. And the TV money would still flow.

I saw something a few years back suggesting the same and then changing the football league to 3 20 team leagues as well (obviously bringing a few extra teams up from the conference to make it up to 96). Seemed like a decent idea to me because they do need to do something about the number of games being played, it's far too high really, when you add in the international fixtures as well.

Take Tielemans for example, he's played 43 games (and the best part of 3500 minutes) already this season and there could easily be another 20+ to add before he gets a break. I've posted before but 4000 minutes seems to be the point where players start to hit a wall and he'll be there before April as things stand.

The number of games is not too high. They're fitter and better trained and have better diets than ever before. They also get rotated in cup games more than ever before and there are more subs than ever before, too. They also play fewer domestic cup games than ever before because replays have been abolished (as has extra time in the League Cup before the semis).

We should not forcibly relegate a load of teams because Champions League teams consider league games an inconvenience. In any case, if the top European leagues all reduced in number, UEFA would immediately increase the number of European games to plug the gap.

Not many seemed to think we were playing too many games and the league should be smaller when we were shit and at the arse end of the table each year. But now we aren't shit let's shaft a couple of other clubs in case it benefits us. Gotta love modern football.

Imv it should have been reduced to 18 years ago but any move now specifically looks like dubious behaviour from those clubs getting into Europe each year.

That said I like the idea of PL1 and 2 and then 3 divisions of 20-24 clubs. The big issue for me is reducing the jump from Championship to PL which is becoming a chasm and is doing nothing for league competitiveness.

How many points are needed for CL qualification in 5th place? Last year spurs got 66 points in 5th.
We have 14 games left so 2 points per game would give us 65 which could be enough this year.
Forest are currently at 2 points a game but I expect that to drop by seasons end  we are 1.5 points per game at the moment but with players coming back and new arrivals we should better that from now on.
65/66 points could well be enough

Fully agree, international football is shite.

If I was a top player now, I'd retire from international football as soon as I was picked, meaning I'd get several breaks during the season and my summer back to recuperate for the next season, which would no doubt help to prolong my career. Plus,

I think if they keep pushing extra games into tournaments and calendars you'll start to see more players take that approach.
