There was no way Dean Smith was getting us promoted until Jack Grealish came back.

Doesn't have to be one or the other. Dean was good for Jack, Jack was good for Dean.

One of them tainted their legacy, one didn't.

Yep.

Jack was the key, Deano the only manager with opposable thumbs to use it.

I wanted to draw Inter, but after watching these first 15 minutes of their game today its probably best to go to Leipzig.

Definitely. We were done for the season before that Derby game. Shoots of recovery at Stoke the week before, but not much else and Grealish made the difference.

And Grealish failed to get us promoted for two seasons without Smith. Cuts both ways, as your man further up says.

I'm thankful for them both, even if memory of Jack is tarnished.

If only there was a Grealish thread.

In other news, I think we have what it takes to do well with the fixtures we have but I am eager to see which game we get in between the Liverpool and Spurs away games.

We could really do with that one being Bologna at home or Young Boys away .

My point being that the order of the games is almost as important as the draw itself.

Obviously I hope we beat them soundly, but it's kind of nice that we drew Juventus at home and Dougie will get to experience CL football at Villa Park. He was a big part of us getting there after all.

He will have a good view of it from the Juve bench.

Well since we were drawn away on the 1st game of the PL, away on boxing day, away on the last day and away in the Carabao cup, I won't be holding out much hope of being home 1st in the CL.

I'm not sure we were "drawn" away in the first Premier League game, didn't we ask for it again? If so, thank goodness we did or they might have been ill-prepared for the first home game.

Very good draw.  No Baltic hooligans
I didn’t know the Faroese felt so strongly about their Scandinavian cousins!
Doh! :) sorry - meant to say Balkan - We just had Hajdu Split visiting here and a horrible bunch
Guessed that might be it. I know the Danes and the Swedes semi-jokingly trade insults based on historical enmity.  And everyone thinks the Norwegians are a bunch of slow-witted farmers who got lucky and hit the oil jackpot. So you never know.
