As fans we should listen to what players and manager say. Ollie, we need to get a big boys winning mentality. Unai, I got the tactics wrong.
As for me, I don’t think we’ve played particularly well since the new year. 5th still seems quite realistic but, to be honest, I’m back to thinking, where is our next league win going to come from?
As regards the next 3 fixtures, I suspect Emery will play an under strength side again v Arsenal for what good that will ultimately do us. Will go as near full strength as possible for the Lille matches.
We beat Wolves comfortably 8 days ago, why would you be wondering where are next league win will come from. Arsenal will of course be tough, but do you really not see us have a chance against Bournemouth and Chelsea at home.
And 5th place ‘seems quite realistic’. We are 11 points ahead of man utd who are 6th. 5th at the very minimum is nailed on.

There's some really contrived stuff being posted.

If Liverpool do lose today we're 1st for fewest points dropped from a winning position this season.

But i bet we are top from losing a 2 goal lead

We've not won after leading by 2 twice under Emery. Twice in 73 games is hardly a regular occurence.

Twice in 73 is more than enough times. It shouldnt happen period. Twice in the space of four months in my view is undefendable.

I wpuld love to know how many times this happened to emery at villareal or arsenal. Some of these players really need to grow a backbone. As the stats for me are misleading. I bet they would look very different if we look at how many times we dropped points after scoring first and then conceding.

Its all good when we keep a clean sheet but tends to go to shit after we concede.

Lets not forget we almost blew it vs forest too

Ads, I’ll bow to your opinion at the end of the season. Until then, let’s wait and see.

In the near 12 months since the bonkers home game against Arsenal our record in league games we've led in is

W28 D3 L1.

It doesn't strike me as a massive issue.

Right but the issue isn’t primarily surrendering leads. It’s more that when teams put pressure on us we fold really easily. On a few occasions that’s resulted in surrendering a lead, where sometimes we’ve managed to recover, but it’s also resulted it some very comfortable wins for the opposition. It’s that weakness under stress that’s the problem.
Paul, the only comfortable wins for the opposition in the entirety of Emerys 18 months, are both Man City away games, with this weeks impacted by the fact we had more than half the first team out, Newcastle away and Spurs at home.  Even the Newcastle home game, Watkins was a very marginal offside from making it 2-3 and without knowing for definite, it felt like we would come back then.

We are conceding some soft goals, we miss Mings and we miss a settled defence because of all the injuries, but I think that is very different to folding. The States PWS shared, show we just don’t fold.

I don’t think it is that different. Those might be aggravating factors obviously, but all of those games show a pattern of a goals scored against in a short space of time. That is a response to opposition pressure. Doesn’t mean we’re a poor side or we haven’t done really well, but regularly shipping at least 2 goals + is a problem in itself.

I wonder if losing our defensive midfielder is part of the problem?

17 points won v 3 points lost after the 70th min this season.
Joint 1st in the league for fewest points dropped after leading this season.
Last 32 league games we have led, W28 D3 L1.

I really don't see how anyone can think we have a mentality issue or are bottlers etc.

Clearly it is, but it’s not just that. Some of these games were prior to his injury (from memory).

Torres has lost 0.1 headers per game more than Mings did last season. 0.7 v 0.8 for Torres. Torres doesn't win as many, but that would suggest we've faced less aerial threats or he's attacked fewer. Either way, with lose less than 1 header a game.

I'm absolutely mind blown that people watch games and don't rate Torres. Bizarre doesn't cut it.

Agree entirely on both your Torres and Watkins assessment. It’s as if one less than stellar game blows away months of actual data.

Completely agree on Pau. There’s a bit of myth that because he’s good on the ball he’s not a good defender. It’s not true; he’s really good at the defensive side. He’s been a bit out of form in that regard, particularly yesterday, but his level is very good.

Emery has massively improved our mentality. Where Ollie’s comment holds some water isn’t so much what we’ve done to now, but it’s now the business end of the season. This is where results are achieved or blown. We’ve not been here in a very long time as a club. The best have a culture of seeing the job through. It’s something we need to improve upon to consistently compete at the top. That doesn’t in any way recognize just how far we have come and the immense progress we have made in every single thing Emery has touched.
