My counterpoint was that at this stage of his career I don't think he's good enough to be a starting right back for a Champions League team.

But he's not - he's second choice right back for a Champions League team.

Neds barely played and you're saying he looks out of his depth, it's a bit ridiculous really.
That's kind of the point.  He's hardly played and when he has he has looked promising in moments, but a liability in others.  Has he got a bright future?  Very possibly.  Do I think we should be starting our Champions League season with him potentially as a starting right back?  Absolutely not.

He's been available for 2 games and has played in both, how is that 'hardly played'?
I think Corey's point was I was criticising a player who hasn't played much for us so it was unfair of me to make a judgment.  My counterpoint was that at this stage of his career I don't think he's good enough to be a starting right back for a Champions League team.

He was the starting full back for a champions league club when we signed him. Would you be making the same argument if he was 23 because it seems like you're judging him heavily based on his age rather than anything else.

Who do you think will be starting for the next 5-6 weeks?

The second choice right back, while the first choice right back is injured.

Edit - or possibly Konsa, depending on circumstances.

I'm judging him on what I've seen Paul.  I know some praised him on Saturday, but for me that felt like praise as in 'not bad for his age.'  Looking at his performance alone, I thought he was pretty poor.

You might be right but more likely you're wrong. UE clearly rates him, that's good enough for me even though I think he isn't the finished article.

Well, you're wrong basically. He didn't play poorly at all, is thrown in for home prem debut against arsenal and played pretty well and will take huge confidence from that and surely only get better. Unai obviously trusts him which means a lot more than you guessing after watching him play for an hour

Aston Villa is pleased to announce the signing of Yeimar Mosquera from Orsomarso and he will immediately join Real Union on loan.

The 19-year-old is a signing for the development teams and had featured regularly for Orsomarso since making his breakthrough into the team earlier this year.

On the international stage, the defender has represented Colombia at Under-20 level.

Welcome, Yeimar! 🇨🇴

Mosquera signed - straight on loan to union

You can see what we are doing

Hope he does well sell him on in 12-24 months for big profit

Would I want Kosta to be starting the entire season as our first choice RB? Probably not... But given the fairly kind run of 4-5 games we have coming up, I think he'll be absolutely fine and will be great experience for him, then Cash will be back.

On the window overall, I think given the clear constraints Monchi and Co have had on them this summer we've done OK. Watching this generation of younger players develop into the key players of 3-4 years time will be fun.

You mean the starting right-back for the next 5-6 weeks (at least) then?

Yes hopefully I'm wrong and certainly Unai must think he's a good prospect.  Of course, according to reports from decent journalists, Unai has also been trying very hard to sign a right-back in the last few weeks.

That’s kind of the point of second-choice right-backs isn’t it?

What if the first choice isn't good enough lol.

I get the general argument and logic, I do think we're a utility defender from being properly covered though. Although Bogarde may well have done enough for Unai to trust him too.
