Surely it's just all a balance of the short, medium and long term? I mean, you can argue that they have got the balance wrong , but that is what is going on in regards to immediately loaning players out.
Yes you’re right - they will be hoping that the players they bought and loaned out are good investments and that Chelsea will pay good money for them.

I think there probably right TBF

On pure sales, spent about thirty million Euros (say £25 million) before you take into account any loan fees we may have received. So, pennies, for a club from the wealthiest league in the world that have just qualified for the richest cup competition in the world and massively increased revenue.

Net spend I mean ? We've had some serious income selling Luiz Diaby Archer

We've spent around £170m and brought in around £145m.

That's a net spend of around £25m, just like he says.

The gap left by Diaby and centre-half/right back worry me. It only takes a couple of injuries, we’ve already got one, and we’re pretty exposed. Feels pretty disappointing we haven’t at least closed one of those gaps.

Selling Diaby worried me until I heared the Damien interview where he said Emery was crying every week over selling Philogene.

I was whining myself that he was Championship level. But then I was at Boro away and didn't notice anything about Rogers to make us want to sign him, never mind 8 months later hold the opinion that he's like Paul Gascoigne crossed with Manu Tuilagi only sober.

Diaby had a lot of harsh criticism on here and those folks appear to he complaining the loudest now.

I'd like 2 more, but I always would. With a now fit JJ, a Rogers, Emi back and Philogene, we're better off than last season attack wise with Diaby the only absentee from a potent top 4 attack. Duran, the thu during pillock is going to be staying and hopefully improving, in his way. Grudgingly, he's a talent, that absolute fruit cake.

I think Onana can do everything Doug can, only he's big enough to pull opponents heads off with his bear hands and has Go-Go-Gadget legs. Him in a double pivot with Tielemans is very sexy stuff. So I don't think we're weaker there.

Mings is miles better than Lenglet, I'm just worried about what we'll get back with Ty. That's why I'd have liked a centre half.

Maatsen will be the biggest crime of the century. That softest of touches, 15 yards higher up than Digne can manage, was just *chefs kiss*. No wonder the bugger was in a European Cup final.

We're a really good side, we didn't need much. No ACLs this year as we want to win a trophy. Shame we can't spend more and that we needed to flog £90m to comply with daft rules, but they are the rules.

I don't think Onana can do what Doug can do at all, but that's not why he was bought. He was brought in to do the stuff that Luiz couldn't do, like tackle and provide some backbone. Tielemans is there to do the stuff that Luiz was good at.

Yeah we've done shit this summer.

Sold two players who wanted to go and made a profit on both.

Signed the best left back in the Champions League last season.

Signed a very decent young player who plays international with another of our central midfielders.

Signed a previous academy product who everyone was gutted to see go and who had a great last season.

Signed a couple of young players who played in Serie A last year and send them out on loan to give them first team action for a year.

Do a number of clever deals to get compliant with PSR rules. (including aforementioned former academy product as well as Kellyman, Iroegbunam, Dobbin)

Sign a midfielder who we've had on loan previously who, by all accounts, was regarded very highly and ilhas consistently hit good form.

We have Ramsey and Buendia back, Mings and Kamara due back very soon so a far stronger and more motivated squad than we had for (at least most of) last season.

We're having trouble shifting deadwood signed by the dimwit we had in charge previously.

We seem to have missed out on Felix, who went somewhere familiar in a crazy deal we wouldn't have offered. We may appear to have missed out on Geertruida, but he's going to be a first choice at an established Champions League club rather than 4th choice here. We missed out (probably) on a player who just didn't want to come. We missed out on a player who only wants Barcelona.

So far he's done exactly what Doug does, as Tielemans and Onana are doing the same job interchangeably.

I'm very much on the glass-more-than-half-full side here, but that's just...a bit silly.

I'm also starting to think Monchi might not be all he's cracked up to be.

Some of us did say that he wasn't actually transfer Jesus at the time we brought him in.

I’ve been open minded but given his complete absence this summer it’s hard to see what value he adds to the Club at all.

I can understand PSR and SCR and see the pressures on the CFO and Vidagany but it’s then up to Monchi to work under the constraints.

To make basic signings from English clubs and the two Juve cast offs looks like he barely even went through the motions.

Is signing Europe's best left back basic?

Having restrictions to the degree we have had would fuck up Txiki Begiristain let alone Monchi.

He’s not even our best left back at the moment!

And certainly wasn’t Chelsea’s!

The depressing thing is that we have been forced into selling (arguably) our best player, for a tiny fee by today's standards and two players that Emery doesn't think are yet good enough to play for us.

We've also sold a major goal threat for serious money. We were all patting ourselves on the back for that, thinking it would enable us to sign some megastar, but all we've got is a Hull player, who may be good but has a long way to go to suggest he'll be a £60 million player.

Our rivals are all spending money all over the place. Which positions have we improved in? I'd say left back, that's about it.

We need goals in the team, we've sold loads and not replaced them.

It isn't necessarily Villa's fault, just a bit of a sickener that when we finally look like being able to compete we have seemingly been prevented to do so, and it seems likely we will have to continue selling star players in future unless the rules change.

He did get in the Champions  League team of the season. I'm sure he'll soon be our first choice.

I’m still more concerned about the defence than the attack & that would still be first choice for me if anything happens today.
