Yes, but it's talent plus environment and oppotunity.

There's a kid sat somehwere in an inner city school who would be the greatest tennis player the world has ever seen but he'll never get the opportunity.

Somewhere in a run down underfunded school in Aston, there's a girl who would be an Olympic gold medalist at that horse dancing thing, but similarly won't get the chance.

We need to give people better access to horses, especially ones that can dance.

Also drop the 'Dressage' label and call it what it is, 'Horse Crip Walking', which will appeal more to da yoof.

These working class kids haven't lived until they have whipped a horse into doing a moonwalk.

Horses don't know the first thing about dancing.  It wasn't part of their evolution and you don't see Stallions making rhythmic moves to music as part of their courtship ritual with Mares on heat. No, horses can dance because if they don't they are hit. They are repeatedly hit so that they get to a level where they are good at it. I therefore suggest all our sportsmen and women are coached with a stick until they are the best.

Can we test it on Micah Richards, restrospectively?

That sounds quite similar to Strictly Come Dancing .

Nah, it's a god given talent.

A bit like my god-given talent for posting bollocks on here for 25 years. Even though it hadn't been invented for decades before I was born.

Samu Omorodion from Atletico is rumoured to be of interest to us for 35 mil. Seems similar to Duran, age/goal scoring ration/style - maybe a better header. He nearly joined Chelsea earlier in the window

No way we're signing both Omorodion and Sterling but rumours are persisting for both. Maybe it's whoever gets over the line first?

I don’t believe in talent, God given or otherwise. The best players have mental fortitude, discipline and work harder than weaker ones on their strengths and weaknesses.

You think Messi is as good as he is because he worked harder?

In short yes. He started young, was focussed to the detriment of pretty much everything else in his life and worked harder than anyone else around him.

Like Beethoven, not the dog.

As someone who watches far more under-6s football than I would like, how does that square with the fact that even at that age there are huge gaps in ability levels?

Presumably some of them haven't been up late doing passing drills when they were three years old?

Pretty much, the ones at the top of the ability tree have spent more time with the ball outside of where you see them.

I think Sterling doesn't want to be part of the circus and has taken the first chance he's got to try and get out of there.
Don't blame him.
I just hope he doesn't end up here.

The more they play with the ball, the better they'll be, definitely.  But there are still kids who just "have it".  There is a kid in my daughter's class who barely kicked a ball until he was 8 - no training, no team, no coaching. His Dad is big into rugby.  But they started playing at school, and he's clearly just a natural sportsman, so about a year later he's being tracked by pro clubs and stands out a mile in terms of technique compared to others his age. He's playing with kids who've been coached since they were 5 or 6.

Obviously hard work is major factor in success at the top level, but it's silly to deny that some kids are just born naturally gifted, in the same way some kids are academically gifted, or are faster runners than everyone else.

Anyone worked out our net spend in this transfer window? Currently, with all the outgoings, we could well be in profit? If so, this gives scope to add a couple more , especially a striker and RB. Possibly cover at left centre back for Torres as Mings is still a month or two from returning.

Messi is extremely talented and hardworking certainly. But he made the grade because Barcelona pumped him full of human growth hormone. You don’t see many 4’11” professional footballers.

We've spent around £150m (third highest in Europe after Chelsea and Atletico Madrid) and brought in around £122m (again third highest, after Leeds and Chelsea).

Luiz £43.5m, Diaby £50-60m, Kellyman €19m, Archer £15m, Iroegbunam £12m,, Chambers £4m. Sanson (undisclosed) Around £160m in sales if I'm correct.?
