Didn’t Monchi state we had to sell Diaby to comply with UEFAs 80% wages-turnover rule? So in that case can we sign anyone without others going out? It’s suggests not.

If reports from the start of last season are to be believed, we’ve dropped something like £400k a week from the wage bill by shedding Langlet, Zaniolo and Diaby. I imagine Chambers’ wages were not inconsiderable given he cost nothing or next to nothing. Not disagreeing with you at all, as you rightly point out they said it after selling Diaby, but maybe it shows how we’ve been able to add more than we thought we would.

As others have pointed out, selling Carlos and Cash is probably necessary before we can bring in their individual replacements. Those two replaced by the Dutch lad would be ideal re: the wage bill. Donk & Moreno have already been replaced I suppose, so that’s less complicated.

Does UEFA rule change to 70% of wages turnover from next season - if it does you can see why Chris Heck and his team are desperately trying to increase commercial revenue.

If we don't comply then next summer another of our "stars" will have to be sold to comply with the rule.

They've brought in about half a billion (not an exaggeration) in player sales in the last four years. They've spent far more, but the rules allow for that. Given their huge squad, they'll have no problem selling again staying within the rules in future seasons.

Hmm not so sure about that. They paying hige wages on long term contracts. I cant see alot of clubs paying the same wages which means chelsea will have to either pay part of their wages or are stuck with them.

Barring palmer who else has gone up in value ?

Maybe Maduweke

Pretty poor 2 players out of 50 odd. This is why their bubble is going to burst at some stage

Significantly different to ours since Emery took over. Struggle to recoup fees on Gerrards older signings. Other than that wouldn't even like to think of the increase in value

Emi - minimum 3 times
Konsa - 4 times
Ollie - 2.5 - 3 times
McGinn - 15-20 times.
Kamara. Ramsey and Tielemans huge mark ups as no initial outlay.
Bailey - probably double
Rogers - already 4-5 times

Getting on for half a billion uplift

Since unai has come in as you say rob we have done some fantastic business as your examples above. Certainly better than under gerrard. We have gone from shopping at lidl to waitrose.

Chelsea on other hand just rolling the dice and hoping for the best. I read that chalobah is in a 7 year contract if no one comes in for him they are stuck with his value dropping as he cant get a game as so many players.  This is going to happen with so many of their players i think

They are going to have to loan out loads of players and pay much of their wage.

The fact they are taking this approach and no one else is (that I know of) must be a concern. It’s impossible to run a happy squad of this many players and get them all pulling in the right direction. They should have just told the new manager to make the existing squad work.

Chalobah on loan might be a good solution for us actually.

I remember reading somewhere that the manager has zero say in their transfer policy.

Yep, and I think it was one of the issues that Poch had.

Yep, Poch wasn't even allowed to say who he wanted to keep.

A top manager looks at that squad, tells the board not to buy anyone else, chooses 25-27 players and tells them to sell the rest. There is enough talent to finish top 3 in there. Just no direction.

Indeed.

It's great, isn't it?

Has any football club ever made any players redundant?
I know Man U said they will be making staff redundant last month as part of cutting costs, could Chelsea do the same with the players?

It's just mind bogglingly bonkers. Out wide they looked really scary end of last season with Madueke, Mudryk, Palmer coming in, Sterling playing OK etc. Scoring for fun. Then they go and sign Neto and Felix. Why??? I can only assume Mendes is literally now just milking Clearlake or whatever they are called for every last penny he can, because it is so easy for him.

He's clearly looking after his players financial future but giving zero thought to their footballing career.

Maybe they are being innovative and naming one squad for domestic competitions and another for Europe.  ;D
