🇳🇱 EXCL: Aston Villa have added Lutsharel Geertruida to their shortlist

Romano tweet

He is a name that I had on my personal wish list to add to the squad, along with Jeremiah St. Juste, because they are around 6'1", pacy (albeit Geertruida is slower than St. Juste), are comfortable on the ball, can pass & can play at CB, CDM & RB.

Felix talks ongoing according to Athletic today

My guess is we’d be looking at a loan now with Duran likely to stay.

As much as i'm against us spending a huge transfer fee and presumably massive wages over the course of several years contract on him, i wouldn't be against a season long loan with the buying option stacked in our favour, i.e. it's entirely up to us whether we proceed, because i suppose you never quite know...

I get the impresison Athletico don't want another loan.  They gave him a new contract last summer before loaning him to Barcelona, but I think that was just to ensure they get 'full value' when he was sold, rather than to tie him to the club for longer.  Like you, I'd definitely prefer it, and it would be brilliant if the club can make it happen, but I suspect the only way he's coming here is with a permanent transfer.

Kurt Zouma off to the Middle East where he can abuse all the cats he wants. Maybe it’s why we haven’t seen much of Diego since he got sent off and the rumours of him going to West Ham are true.

A loan would feel too temporary to me.  We either think he’s the nuts, or we don’t.  I don't think a loan would likely get the best from Felix either. I think he needs to feel settled and loved - just a hunch obviously.  I say take a risk and let’s go for it!

I don’t think we’d have the PRS head room to buy him this summer without selling Duran.

Same
I know we’ve had good and bad experiences with loan players, but they always feel like bit part players to me trying to impress rather than settle down and become integral to the squad
I doubt we’ll get Felix, but he’s been passed from pillar to post and what he needs is a club and manager that believes in him where he can feel wanted and connected, if that’s us great

There's surely some sort of deal to be done based on a loan with an obligation to buy if certain milestones are reached?

I don't think they'd even insist on the milestones. Loan with obligation to buy would probably be our preference PSR-wise, but for them it's delaying getting in the cash by a year. Whether that works for them or not is the question, and I'd suggest it doesn't, which is why they're holding out.

As I said a few weeks ago I think the best would be if they gave him to us for free and we pay anything up to £80m based on performance over time, so if he’s Dwight Yorke 95-98 they get £80m and if he’s Charles N Zogbia 2011-2016 they get fuck all. Well, as long as we don’t sell him to Man Utd for £12.6m with Unai threatening to shoot him, if he does turn out good.

It does feel like they need a big transfer this summer - they've spent (or are spending) around £200m, so presumably that needs to be covered somewhere.

They've got a load of big wages of their books this summer, but nothing huge in terms of transfer fees.

25 players have come or gone so far this summer at Villa. Boring fact for you! 26 with Archer coming back.

Madrid refuse to loan him out again. The value I've read we're going to open with is £35m. We still have other more essential shopping to do and ideally sell a few but until that happens I don't expect we'll see any deal struck for Felix.
