We conceded too many last season and too many from crosses. We need to move Carlos on and then get the right one in. People talk about the goals we're losing from Luiz and Diaby but if we can significantly improve our goals conceded record this season, that would probably have greater impact.

Pau may become more of a organiser this season as he’s more integrated into the squad.  Mings originally held that role and it’s impressive how Konsa has stepped up.

Does one player assume that ‘talker’ role and dictate where the line is, or is more talkers considered better?

I used to hate 'talkers' when I played. They were always useless well-padded centre-backs and I'd constantly be thinking they were C-words every time they opened their stupid gobs. Do your own job, you fat bastard!

Goalies were worse. Couldn’t juggle a ball double-digits and would patronize outfield players by telling them what pass they should’ve played.

Fulham would be a decent move for Carlos if true. Would expect any fee to be less than £15m though.

We need another senior centre-back, right-sided if possible.

Right now Pau needs to urgently focus on his own game. Fortunately he has credit in the bank and the love of Unai but that won't protect him forever if he can't get back to the performances he displayed midway through last season.

If you cut through all the froth we seem to have sold two big players and bought two in. One in a position we are already well covered in.

I really hope Monchi is on top of things and we can make two signings before the season starts.

I don’t know if we will make another signing without a sale.

I hope he does go.
Mainly because he’s not very good, but also because it means we definitely have to buy better.
I worry that the numbers we have now means another CH isn’t coming, whereas for me, it’s the biggest single area that needs sorting.

I would expect to see two more significant incomings - a replacement for Diaby (which seems to be Felix / Were waiting on what happens there), and CB.

I expect to see 1 of our left backs go, and maybe Carlos to make room for another CB.  If Duran goes, I expect another replacement to be Ollie's backup.   Still think our first 14/15 is no stronger than last year - certainly in terms of proven ability.

I don’t think I’d call him as not very good more not very consistent…I compare him to James Collins 9/10 one week and 5/10 the next when in reality you need 7.5 or 8/10 every week from your centre halves

I think that’s bang on.

He’s capable of being one of the best in his position in the league at times, but then he also throws in Curtis Davis debut performances at times

He’s not reliable. I look at many of our squad and think, yes, we can rely on them but then I look at others and see potential excellence but frequent awfulness.

He’s the prime example of the latter.

Aston Villa have offered €20m + bonuses for Roma midfielder Bryan Cristante.
@IlarioDiGiovamb #avfc

Cristante in the Premier League? #AsRoma is considering Aston Villa's offer: €20m plus bonuses for the Giallorossi midfielder. Bryan is highly regarded by DS Monchi who brought him to Roma from Atalanta. For #DeRossi, everyone is transferable except goalkeeper #Svilar and defender #Ndicka@enricocamelio#Calciummarket #AstonVilla #Asr #RadioRadio

He is a 29-year-old Italian who plays as a defensive midfielder for Serie A club Roma.
