We tried to get him the season before he went to City I think.

He’d fit the “2 for 1” options whereby he can play as a ten or a striker.  I’ve no  idea whether he is actually any good though, as most strikers would look excellent for Argentina and Man City.  Definitely takes a mean free kick though.

I think he was 2 time SA player of the year as well, but I suppose playing for one of the biggest clubs on the continent reinforces your point. He’s certainly a team player so Unai would love him.

That is true, always puts a shift in.  Would suit our team, but the fee seems like his ceiling price to me.

👆 I don’t think you’d lose money on him but he’d certainly improve us if he brings his Man City form and keep us where we want to be. You can’t always make profits on players, particularly if you’re paying large fees but if he does the business it’s job done.

We should get Emi to have a word and sign Alvarez instead, who I think Man City would be mad to let go but perhaps he wants more game time.

There were very few Man City players who played more for them last season than Alvarez did.

I don’t know, if he does want to leave maybe he wants to be the main man up front in which case, in this fictitious discussion, he wouldn’t want to come to us. He was linked to Arsenal as well as Atletico so both would make more sense.

I don’t think Guardiola would be happy selling to potential rivals.

Yet he sold Cole Palmer to Chelsea last season.

Ah yes, the whole 'Argentinian Gary Shaw' stuff.

Think Gary Shaw was linked with Real Madrid rather than Atlético.

Zinchenko and Jesus to Arsenal too. City don't care really if a player wants out they let him go wherever.

Yes true, I guess if they’re surplus to requirements they are relaxed about who they sell to.

If Cole Palmer was the player he has become vs someone of high potential I don’t think Pep is selling him to Chelsea. And certainly not for £40MM. And Chelsea were trying to rebuild yet again so maybe Man City didn’t see them as an immediate threat which even with Palmer they are a long way from being.

I doubt they see us an immediate threat. Got to take into account how arrogant they are.

Striker we are fine if Duran, as Emery said, stays put. Emery isn't a bomb squad type and will get Duran back to being a functional player with us.

We have to get a centre half though. And fast.

100% this

Centre half is massively the most important signing we need now…3 teams have ran in behind us very easily in pre season…I know Konsa & Martinez will return but we need more pace & physicality back there come 17th August…we are already Lenglet (who was not great) short, Carlos form yo yo’s hugely & it would be foolish to rely on Mings coming back flying from that injury.  Nirvana for me would be to sell Carlos, buy a quality replacement & then loan in another centre back until January also

Same here Gareth. We lack a dominant centre back. Pace we are ok if Konsa is in the middle, but we need an organiser in there too. Konsa took that on without Mings last season, but Torres nor Carlos are talkers. Carlos out for a Chalobah or Bijol that we were linked with would work.
