I think with the FFP situation, if we spend £50m on Felix (let alone £70m or so) and get fuck all back from him as I’d predict, it’s going to be a very big hit to take in that regard. His value will go down dramatically again and we’ll be left needed to spend again to replace.
It’s a crazy move IMHO.
The game has gone if  all the analysis is around the theoretical financial impact of a signing over a non specific time period, rather than whether the player is any good and can help us win something for the first time in donkeys years.

I despair sometimes.

Despair away. Obviously you’re not able to compute that the issue revolves around the playing side with the implications extending to finances as well. That’s partly due to FFP rules, which yes are a real thing. Perhaps take up a new hobby if it bothers you that much.
I prefer football to economics. Thank you for you suggestion.
Now, go back and play with your calculator.
You can make the boobies on it.

Right, so the point you’re making is that you think he’ll do fine. Why not just say that then rather than all of that twattish fucking waffle just because you disagree?

Aye, far too many risks with this fella at that price.

Pricey loan fee (circa £10 million) with option or obligation to buy based on certain criteria seems the better way to go. It's not as if there are a whole host of clubs tripping over themselves to pay €50-€70 mill for him anyroad.

I'm not that overkeen on it either. I'm not sure whether its the money involved or the seemingly lack of interest from clubs to take him on permanently, although both may be connected.

I'd imagine they're connected. Not many clubs could afford to pay what they want for him.

Chelsea are a mess so I'm not surprised things didn't go well for him, or result in a permanent deal. (Although I do remember several times where commentators would say he was the only Chelsea player who looked like he was trying). And then Barca would have him permanently but they can't afford him. So it's not necessarily a case of nobody is willing to pay that much.

I'd assume we'll see this happening a few more times with players given the ridiculous fees some clubs paid for players. Half the Man Utd squad are rubbish and they don't want them, but they can't shift them for the prices they want.

I guess you'd wonder why his own club and manager are so dead set against him, but I don't remember hearing anything specific that makes him sound like a head case or a problem player.

Felix  yes please . In Emery we trust . Makes most players better .
But Felix is not a baby and Emery has few others to work on.  There is a reason why his present club are desperate to get rid of him.

Barcelona do want to sign him permanently but can’t because they’re skint (and also prioritising signing Williams).

Until they give me reason not to I trust both Emery and Monchi to make the right calls on what is right for the team and the club.

I'd prefer a loan on Felix . He's a massive gamble and not a priority position as we have Buendia back .

Isn't the current rumour that Villa and Felix are pretty much in agreement and the holdup is around Atleti holding out for a bigger fee than we're willing to offer, €70m being the number I've seen.

I think it'll complete before long at something like €15-20m less than that.

That's pretty much it. I thought everything would have been sorted by now but they're obviously digging in. Simone doesn't want him back which is why Felix was training alone yesterday, first day back since the Euros.

Why did he and Simone fall out?

As mentioned in the Onana thread, it seems like Emery has fairly honest conversations with the players he's trying to sign, especially if there's interest from elsewhere. Whatever issues Felix had in Madrid, he should have a clear picture of what Emery's plans are for him, and us, and if he's up for that, which according to some reports, he is, then I don't think we should be having any doubts about the signing.

Although, obviously you'll get players like Zaniolo, where he was clearly up for it and committed to the cause, but it still didn't work out. Felix has played in the Prem before though, so I think he should be fine.

They cant be that skint if they're signing Williams.

Sometimes a player and a club just fit each other perfectly, regardless of what went on at previous clubs.
McGrath, Carew are just two examples.
It’s possible Felix and Villa could be a match. Unfortunately you don’t know until they arrive.

Absolutely. Much better than the young & hungry players from the Championship.
