JF has failed at almost every club since leaving Portugal. I do hope it’s just a rumour and we are going nowhere near this waste.
Didn’t he get around 1 in 4 at Barca last year? If he gets that with us as well as helping Watkins get near 20 again, that will be a better output than Diaby.
All ifs and buts, but the type of outlets reporting this as possibly being on, mean its possibly going to be on, so I’’d say we better get used to it.

Isn't the current rumour that Villa and Felix are pretty much in agreement and the holdup is around Atleti holding out for a bigger fee than we're willing to offer, €70m being the number I've seen.

I think it'll complete before long at something like €15-20m less than that.

That's pretty much it. I thought everything would have been sorted by now but they're obviously digging in. Simone doesn't want him back which is why Felix was training alone yesterday, first day back since the Euros.

They paid £113m for him. I think they'd want a bit  more than £50m back.

Why did he and Simone fall out?

5 years ago. He's down to 2 years on his contract and everyone knows they want him and wages out the door. They aren't in the strongest position ever.

I think with the FFP situation, if we spend £50m on Felix (let alone £70m or so) and get fuck all back from him as I’d predict, it’s going to be a very big hit to take in that regard. His value will go down dramatically again and we’ll be left needed to spend again to replace.
It’s a crazy move IMHO.

It’s a risk.  But if we get the Felix everyone was expecting a few years ago we’ll have a genuinely world class player who is about to hit his peak.  With the best will in the world, we aren’t signing a world class player who isn’t in some way a risk.  I think it’s worth it.

What they want and what they can get aren't the same though, especially given they really don't want to keep him. As I said €50-55m and a 10-15% sell-on clause is about the most anyone is going to offer them and if they don't take it he'll either be loaned out again, which they apprently don't want to do, or his value just goes down further.

I'm not that overkeen on it either. I'm not sure whether its the money involved or the seemingly lack of interest from clubs to take him on permanently, although both may be connected.

It’s a big risk bud. Yes, any player is to a degree but there is a scale and this guy is off it. That much money for a player that has at no point in his career hit expectations, fell out with his manager currently and training alone and wasn’t even getting in the Portugal side and looked sulky and pretty half arsed when he came on. Over the years we’ve had our fair share of this sort, we need to look elsewhere.

The game has gone if  all the analysis is around the theoretical financial impact of a signing over a non specific time period, rather than whether the player is any good and can help us win something for the first time in donkeys years.

I despair sometimes.

Despair away. Obviously you’re not able to compute that the issue revolves around the playing side with the implications extending to finances as well. That’s partly due to FFP rules, which yes are a real thing. Perhaps take up a new hobby if it bothers you that much.

I get the sentiment but I suspect we’ve always talked about an expensive transfer and the risk of the cost. It’s just now we add the excitement of amortisation and PSR calculations into the conversation 🤣

I prefer football to economics. Thank you for your suggestion.
Now, go back and play with your calculator.
You can make the word boobies on it, you know.

The only question mark for me is his desire to play for Villa or were we just the only option in the end
No problem about his ability or form, if he clicks with Watkins he’ll be the technical help to Ollie and potentially a historic strike partnership

He’s absolute class and those that doubt will soon change their mind I’m sure, as long as he really wants to come
