Selling Diaby would be stupid. Especially because we're not getting "100m" from his or Durans perspective sales.

I wont step on Percy's toes with the later, but Diaby at £50m on 5 years, sold at £60m would add £20m profit. Not £50m/60m. Pointless, especially as it would cost a hell of a lot more to replace him and with no guarantee they'd have as good an output.

The players good enough to play for us in those attacking roles is now a very small pool.

We've just bought Diaby’s replacement back from Hull.

I'd be massively disappointed if that were the case as we'd be weaker, as said elsewhere.

The progress Rogers made last season could have greatly altered the decisions on the places in the squad of both Diaby and Duran.
SUE may feel that Rogers and Philongene are viable alternatives.

Rogers and JJ are our powerful ball carriers from deep. Slow, slow, break the line, see you later as we're 30/40 yards up. Diaby is more central and his pace as an outball is found in nobody else, not even the imperious Bailey.

Bizarre that the ‘Bigger pony’ club was branded as such by people who think we* should keep dropping £50m on players whilst not selling any.

*The owners, presumably.

Diaby to KSA £65m , Duran to the speedway track for £35m , not too unrealistic. Agree re Diabys pace we would need to buy someone else but maybe with a £20m budget .

That said we rarely seemed to use Diaby for his pace . We didn't deploy him that way.

Does this add weight to the Diaby departure rumors?

Depends one whether Jaden prefers the Hanafi or Hanbali fiqh.
Nice one :) I would prefer Jaden to practice free flowing Hanafi game.

We've sold one of our best midfielders. We will likely have to sell somebody else at some point, if we cannot increase revenue sufficiently and perhaps even if we do. Such is the business and such are the rules, for now.

Attacking players are the most expensive. We're not going to find too many players good enough to come and play for us and get 19 goals/assists at least in their first season. Not for a wage likely less than we're paying Diaby now or for a fee less than we paid for Diaby. I'd rather, given he's only 25, see him develop rather than saddle us with financial headaches for a potential marginal gain.

I bet he didn’t hit the heights that some expected of him but the return in his first season was excellent. Outside of the alien at Man City how many players come in from Germany and just set things alight in the PL? Jadon Sancho cost way more and got dumped by Man U if you want to compare a player in a similar position. Werner was and is shit. Havertz only now looks a good player. Diaby should not be sold. We should continue to allow him time to develop as Bailey did. If we sell him for a business reason to get other players in that’s one thing. But we absolutely should not be giving up on him at all under some misguided impression that he failed. He did not.

Well, that’s better than branding people who disagree childish and entitled. Progress I suppose.

Last season we ended up with the thinnest of benches. Sometimes not taking all the places and often with two goalkeepers named as subs and a couple of U21/18 thrown in for good measure.
Yes Doug has gone and Diaby will probably follow but a considered look at those returning from injury and our signings shows a much stronger and balanced squad where even making the bench is not guaranteed.

I would be surprised if he went.  Between him and Luiz we will have lost a big chunk of our goals from last season.  Unless we have something up our sleeve (who would need to be proven at this kind of level).  But I don't think there are that many out there.

I tell you what, at the right price and an extensive medical I'd take him, he'd be strictly 2nd fiddle but he can play and would be a fine back up.
