Lot of talk of Gallagher again after initially cooling.

Cannot make my mind up whether i like the idea?

I don't.  He hasn't impressed me over much from what he's shown during the Euro's.

Presumably we'd also then have no interest in signing Saka, Foden, Kane, Rice etc.

I don't think the last four England matches are really the best thing to judge players on.

Both Lenglet and Zaniolo are still on the Pravda squad page, along with the new signings

https://www.avfc.co.uk/teams

The Barca website from last summer has Lenglet as being on loan until 30th June 2024.
For Zaniolo  he is listed last August as signing on a 12 month loan so perhaps he is ours for a bit longer.

Both loan deals would have run up until 30th June. Looks like Zaniolo is joining Atalanta from Galatassaray.

Great move for him, exactly the sort of team where he'll excel.

That squad thing has them all wearing last season's kit so assume it will refresh whenever we launch the new kit.

I like him but i'm not sure centre mids should be the priority now. We have 2 new ones already, one (hopefully) coming back from being out pretty much all of last season and 1 to come back who missed the second half of last season. Ok, we did sell Doug also but unless Kamara and Ramsey are going to be missing again for most of the season i'd leave it.

We need another DM as a minimum.

Look at how many more goals we conceded in all the games Kamara missed last season compared to when he played.

We simply can't ignore that if we want to remain competitive in PL.

We've just signed one though, do you want 3 players to cover that position? If you think we should get a loan for the first half of the season until Kamara is fit then fine but a permanent signing there makes no sense.

I tended to think the same as Dave S but then remembered who the coach is.

Even accounting for Southgate effect I don't think Gallagher is what we need really because I see him as McGinn without the arse at best. I'd be hoping we can find better options for the sort of money they'd want.

Barrenechea's more of a long term player imo. A huge ask based on one season at Frosinone for him to anchor us at DM against some of the best teams in europe and then a big prem game three days later.

We've signed him with a similar profile to Luiz coming in 2019 after a season at Girona and the Luiz of 19/20 was not comparable to last few years obviously.

We have three DMs, who's the other one?

Yes I would be looking to get another in on a season long loan in a similar manner to covering Buendia and Mings last year.

I agree, I'd warmed to him in his performance against us but his appearances this summer have reminded me of the other times I've seen him and he's played like there's nothing in his head but white noise.

I hear that 'Barks' plays more of a defensive midfield deep lying play-maker role these days. I think that the ideal option for us would be to get maybe an experienced player on a 6 month loan until we see how Kamara / Barrenechea are shaping up * as the season progresses. An option to buy would be good as well, but spending shit loads on another CM of any sort seems a bit daft to me, as much as i rate Gallagher more than some seem to on here.

*Edit, and Barkley for that matter.

I never said we had 3 but maybe it wasn't clear. I'm fine with a loan but I think signing Barrenechea and then immediately signing someone who will mean he isn't even making the bench once Kamara is fit would be a really poor way to integrate him into the squad. a half-season loan (with an option to extend if needed) would be a much better solution as we're telling him he's a key part of the squad but we don't want to put the pressure on him to play every game.

Half-season loans from the summer to winter are pretty rare.

I know so if it has to the whole season then so be it, I just don't want us looking to replace Barrenechea before he's even completed a training session for us. If he was a teenager I could see it as an option but he's 23 and has just played a full season in Serie A.

All this assumes he'll be back to his previous levels as soon as he comes back and it might not be until 2025/26 that he's back to his best.

Or we could hang on to Dendonker for another year.

Just off to put my tin hat on.
