The thing with Iroegbunam is that he had a good opportunity to fight for a place and didn't take it. That suggests that he isn't ready or Emery isn't convinced.

If we can get £10m for a player that we don't think is going to play for us next season, then with sell on clauses or buy-back clauses, it makes sense for him to go somewhere he can play ad develop.

Where are Everton getting 10m from?

Reports Tim Ireogbunam is off to Everton for about £10m. Good business if true.
If they are genuinely interested in Tim I hope Obama is part of the conversation and him coming the other way

That is the only way that I would have any positive thing to say about this potential transfer.

Otherwise, I would be fuming that our academy has been turned into nothing more than a Chelsea/ManC style farm...

It’s not really the same in this case though. There was a pathway through to the first team squad and he either isn’t good enough or ready to make the first team. That’s not really “farming” players, it’s kind of what’s always been the case.

He also didn't come through our academy in the first place.

If we got £10m I’d say it’s a good deal.

Does he count as an academy player in the PSR calculations?

I respectfully disagree.

He is an excellent prospect but hasn't had any form of run in the first team to get used to Emerys system, & what is a very specialised position.

It takes the experienced defenders a good three or four consistent games together before they stop conceding for fun in Emerys system, so I see no reason why that is different for a youngster in the CDM.

And while I don't think he is quite ready just yet, to sell him now stinks of appeasing the bean counters & not of developing a player who could be excellent in the future & natural cover & competition for Kamara who could save us millions.

But obviously, none of us know the reason he hasn't been given more opportunities

Were you fuming on West Brom’s behalf when we ‘farmed’ him from their academy after they had done a lot of the work

Sounds like the Premier League have ratified the sale following them being under an embargo.

The Birmingham Mail reckon that we have signed 19 year old Ethan Amundsen-Day on a free.

No...

I don't support West Brom.

Im not sure what point it is you're trying to make...

I get what you’re saying but it’s clear from last season that Tim isn’t really in the managers plans or not good enough for where we want to compete. There was a clear pathway for him at the back end of the season and he only largely got a few minutes here and there.

I’d love a load more home grown players featuring more regularly in the first team but while we are continuing with this forward moment it’s going to be increasingly more difficult.

If we can get £10m for him I think it’s great business by us.

It's very hard to tell if a young player has what it takes to make it. All I'd say now is to be getting time ahead of, or alongside the likes of Kamara, Luiz, McGinn, Tielemans and so on, a player really has to have something about them. Morgan Rogers had demonstrated he has that something, I'm sorry but Iroegbunam just hasn't done that yet. He may go on to be very good, and I hope he has a great career somewhere, he just doesn't look good enough for us, unfortunately. Given our injury crisis at the back end of the season, I can only assume he wasn't showing himself to Emery that he's good enough, sad to say.

£10m would be very good money.

Now being reported elsewhere*. https://x.com/ElBobble/status/1803063446335848845

Everton fans on GOT seem pleased enough about the prospect, if not quite sure who he is.

*No idea if they''re using Footy Insider as a source.

I'll be back in a few hours when the tedious South Pole/calendar puns have ended.

He may be some time.
Not a fan of puns fests, but well played on this one.
