The Athletic are now reporting advanced talks but not a fee, so this does give it more credibility.

Something to do with Onana maybe?  Or Obama.  Or Osama.  Who knows (I don't)?

I like Tim but he's one where the team has developed a little too quickly for him (I'd say the same for Philogene, Archer and AJ Ramsey as well). On that basis a mov for a decent fee to a club where it'll be easier to get gametime is best for everyone.

Sell him with a buy back. Sooner or later we will have buy backs for the entire league and then we will rule the world.

*Evil laugh.

Agreed, and as Risso said, a £10m fee would represent very good business.

The writing was on the wall for Tim when he couldn't get game time after the Kamara injury.  He looks a decent prospect but £10m would be a good deal right now.

Will we have a #6 to start the season if he leaves?

Does he count as an academy player in the PSR calculations?

Reports Tim Ireogbunam is off to Everton for about £10m. Good business if true.
If they are genuinely interested in Tim I hope Obama is part of the conversation and him coming the other way

That is the only way that I would have any positive thing to say about this potential transfer.

Otherwise, I would be fuming that our academy has been turned into nothing more than a Chelsea/ManC style farm...

It’s not really the same in this case though. There was a pathway through to the first team squad and he either isn’t good enough or ready to make the first team. That’s not really “farming” players, it’s kind of what’s always been the case.

I respectfully disagree.

He is an excellent prospect but hasn't had any form of run in the first team to get used to Emerys system, & what is a very specialised position.

It takes the experienced defenders a good three or four consistent games together before they stop conceding for fun in Emerys system, so I see no reason why that is different for a youngster in the CDM.

And while I don't think he is quite ready just yet, to sell him now stinks of appeasing the bean counters & not of developing a player who could be excellent in the future & natural cover & competition for Kamara who could save us millions.

But obviously, none of us know the reason he hasn't been given more opportunities

The alternative, of course, is to NOT sell him, and either loan him out to a Championship club (we've done that once already, so not sure what we'd learn), or have him sat on our bench to get a fleeting few minutes during the season.  As others have said, if he couldn't get a few games during our late winter injury crisis, then he's unlikely to get a game once Unai has strengthened this summer.

I like him as a prospect, but I also hope the days of us keeping promising-but-not-quite-good-enough-yet young players on the books until their contracts run out (ala Callum O'Hare) are behind us.  £10m for a player who is unlikely to contribute much to our first team this season is pretty good business.

Who knows, he might have an Adam Wharton style season given regular games, and he might have us all ruing the fact we let him go - but he's definitely not going to have that season here, so he might as well move on and we get the financial benefit.

I'd like us to retain some sort of sell-on / buy-back, to cover ourselves, unless the club is 100% confident he's not going to be good enough for our first team in the future.

Given the season doesn't start for 2 months, yeah

I didn't think we'd have any academy options to sell off this summer. If Everton want to give us 10mil for a player who clearly isn't in the manager's plans, then I'd snap their hand off for it.

Why would we have to loan him to a Championship club?

Everton are interested, so he could get a loan in the Prem. Or abroad. I think Ajax liked him too.

At least that way we are in control of his future & can recall if the loan is a shit-show, like Archers transfer turned out to be.

I understand that "the bird in the hand" looks good right now, but at some point, another one of these are going to come back to bite us in the arse, like Philogene did when we sold him for 57p & a packet of pork scratchings, who is now worth at least £25M+.

I acknowledge & respect that not everybody will agree with me & I do see some of the points raised, but overall, I think we could be making a mistake if we sell him outright.

He's never stood out for me, albeit in limited game-time. But he's struggled to impose himself and been loose with his passing.

A great move for him if he gets regular starts at Everton next season. If so, I hope we have clauses that will take this to £15m+ - he would be worth that at least if Dyche gets him performing.

All ifs and buts at the moment, we are going to have to get busy buying midfielders with Luiz and Tim going and with Bouba still out. Hoping the Onana link is true as well as Guendouzi. If McKennie also arrives, not sure he’ll be a centre midfielder, more right sided.  Barkley a welcome addition too.  £10m for Tim is a good deal for both clubs, hope a sell on fee is inserted, just in case.

Just reading up on Onana, he might be ideal as Kamara’s stand in through to December and would also offer options once he’s back.

Losing Tim and Luiz but gaining Onana might be worth it. He’s not as good as luiz but is a more natural DCM so the composition of the squad improves.
