I'm really not sure we are losing Doug because of FFP, I think he wants a change. If we were pushing to sell someone because of FFP, I think there would be talk around a lot more players.

We have plenty of sellable assets, so if it was purely about the cash then we'd be able to do it and keep Luiz.

He's going because he'd like to, may have been promised it, and it helps us do what we need to, so makes sense. He's done his five years, he's helped us progress, and could have been leaving on a free this summer if he hadn't signed a new deal.

One of the qualities the great managers have is selling players at the right time, when they have peaked. I wouldn't knock Unai if that's whats happening here, he may think we've seen the best of him?

Shame as he's been one of my favourites but players come and go.

I also think his drop off in levels can be eye catching. He was sublime for 12 months, but post Christmas was nowhere near that level, with Tielemans quite obviously being the pick of our midfield.

Iling-Junior isn't a natural LWB.

Defensively, he is relatively poor.

I think he was moved there because the England U21 coach played him at LWB against Luxembourg & he got a couple of goals.

Juve then followed suit, but he is 100% more comfortable at LM/LW going forward.

Would be nice to have a left sided midfielder with a left foot too. He's about 6'0" too, so good height.

Away from the Dougie deal, Juve are said to want €15m for him so we let them keep McKennie and we keep Dougie and just pay the €15m.

EDIT: They've also been trying to flog him since December. I'm struggling to see how Monchi is only valuing Dougie at just over £50m.

I saw a twitter post pointing out that most the players we've been linked with are 6ft + and strong athletes.  It's definitely a weakness in our squad that needs addressing.

I haven't fact checked, but:

Iling-Junior (6ft, strong, fast, athletic)
Weston McKennie (6ft, Strong, aggresive, great aerially)
Ross Barkley (6ft2 strong, physical)
Morgan Rogers (6ft 3, strong, fast, athletic)
Nedeljovic (6ft, athletic)
Lino Sousa (6ft1, fast, athletic)
Conor Gallagher (6ft, aggresive, physical)
Denzel Dumfries (6ft 2, strong, fast, athletic)

Douglas Luiz (5 ft9, wonderful player but not physical)

The plan is clearly to sell Luiz. Barkley all but done and then I'm guessing one of Gallagher/McKennie and McKennie easier deal to do due to negotiating with Juventus.

Bit concerned we seem to be wanting to stockpile box to box midfielders and there's no serious links to any DMs as of yet.

Last season it was very stark seeing us go from barely conceding a goal a game in majority of games Kamara started to conceding 2s and 3s regularly in all the games he didn't.

We need to replace Kamara as he's not going to be available until December at the earliest.

Maybe it will be a last minute season loan job in August. We will struggle to do much in CL and Premier league next season conceding at least two goals regularly.

We tend to get the deals done in a certain order. We do like to get the free transfers done early doors, freeing up budget for later acquisitions.

Could be that but we do need a DM rather than waiting half a season for Kamara to get fit.

McGinn-Tielemans were great as the pivot at Arsenal but Tielemans picks up his injuries and SJM is better in many games advancing and pressing the defenders so I'd like to see a new player come into that area rather than just pushing back existing players.

There’s that stat that we ran less than any team last season, pressed less and were basically bone idle most of the time.

Maybe we will play three 8s and they kinda rotate, so one sits (rests) whilst the others press. Tactically it might make us more flexible and give us a Plan B.

?

We weren't bone idle, Emery was managing a paper thin squad that was at breaking point.

Have you really called a squad that finished 4th bone idle?
