could clubs at risk under the PSR trade between themselves? Would it work?

we buy Gallagher for £50m but he mysteriously becomes homesick and returns to Chelsea in 2025 for £60m the following year?

Similarly Chelsea buy off us to fill our PSR hole.

It's what Juve got done for when they and Barca swapped two average squad squad players and said they were both worth a gazillion pounds.

Yeah, pretty much, I suppose the valuations and merit of the transfer needs to stand up to scrutiny - like Gallagher does,

I think this is the kind of window where holding your nerve will pay off. In an inflationary environment it makes sense to buy now before prices go up. But I reckon prices will be deflated by everyone else's FFP constraints. Some sellers (like Chelsea) will be desperate to move people on. A little patience could very well pay off as the season gets closer.

I'm not so sure it is that inflationary a market, or if it is, it won't be for long. I think the English clubs have, looking at Forest and Everton, got the message that they need to take PSR more seriously, so we'll see far fewer deals.

Saw the same in the January window, which was almost dead, nobody was out waving piles of money around anymore.

Thats what I'm saying - its not an inflationary market. Sellers will find few buyers with any spare cash. So holding off could land bargains.

David Ornstein now reporting the Conor Gallagher interest.

I think it’s starting to make sense - if Doug were to leave Gallagher does drive through the midfield in a similar way.

Completely different players for me. Gallagher is very average when he sits deep in midfield with limited playmaking ability. Gallagher is very much like McGinn I would say and maybe a very good fit to compete with McGinn and particularly Ramsey on the sides of our midfield. His pressing is excellent and he is sharp around the box. If there were worries about Ramsey's fitness then it would make sense.

With a few of these I'm just wondering if players are trying to force clubs into giving them big contracts. Doesnt make much sense for Gallagher to leave Chelsea, I expect Spurs will also be linked with him.

Gallagher has an obvious affinity for Chelsea having come through the ranks there and now captained the side.

They might have their own FFP concerns but if the player himself doesn't want the move we prob shouldn't be going all out to persuade him. Plenty of energy and all the rest of it. But not enough quality on the ball. And the energy side of things can't banked on if his heart's not really in it.

Dougie is different gravy.

But if his heart isn't in it either............

Most people if they are honest with themselves have been slating Gallagher for years. Powder puff. He's absolutely nothing like McGinn , not fit to clean his boots. Very very poor comparison. Of course the modern fan with some tenuous links of him joining Villa gets a bit excitable. Crack on.

Don't know who you were watching last season but everytime without fail I saw a Chelsea game there was one player  constantly driving the team forward and that was Gallagler.  If you don't like him fine but by any margin he had a good seasona and would give us that drive that we lack

I'm surprised Sky haven't got a countdown running for the hours and minutes left for clubs to get business done in order to comply with PSR (i.e. 30th June).

Conor Gallagher's stats (according to WhoScored) for Premier League games this season, compared to Luiz and McGinn. It's worth noting that they have McGinn playing in nine different positions this season...

   Tackles      2.3      1.7      1.7
   Intercepts      1.2      0.7      0.6
   Fouls      2.2      1.5      1.1
   Clearances      0.8      0.5      0.5
   Dribbles      1.2      0.8      1.3
   Blocks      0.3      0.2      0.1
   Shots      1.3      1.4      1.1
   Passes      52.2      56.4      32.6
   Key Passes      1.4      1.5      1.3
   Pass Success      91.5      89.4      82.7
   Crosses      0.5      0.9      0.7
   Long Balls      1.5      2.8      2.1
   Through Balls      0.1      0.2      0.2

According to Tom Collomosse, we’re open to selling Dougie and Juve are offering McKennie + £25-30m

Isn't Coopers Injury VillaTim the one who stalked the site over the summer looking for references to The Athletic to get angry about?

I'm sure there's a separate thread for our favourite lyrics by the Fall.

I think it offends something deep within him.

My opinion is there's no way we should do this, as by my calculations this values Doug at £25-30m.
