This made me laugh on Twitter:

We have decided to replace Douglas Luiz with three players, to cover all of his attributes

- Ross Barkley for his passing ability

- Conor Gallagher for his shooting ability

- Weston McKennie as a constant reminder of how he played for the last three months of the season

Am I being greedy if I want us to keep Dougie and sign Gallagher?

If we have to sell one of our best players for ffp reasons then so be
I’m pretty chilled on who it is as everyone is replaceable

Everyone apart from this fella, he’s irreplaceable

David Ornstein now reporting the Conor Gallagher interest.

"Aston Villa hold preliminary talks with Chelsea over move for Conor Gallagher. #AVFC also in contact with 24yo’s camp. Unai Emery huge admirer + emerging as a top targethttps://x.com/David_Ornstein/status/1798054790938927335

Didn't we hear similar comments when we were after Rogers?

Ornstein is to London clubs what Percy is to Midlands ones - ie absolutely the most reliable reporter out there.

If we do sign Gallagher, can we have a stipulation that he doesn't shred his socks. He always looks like he has a moth infestation at his place.

And that he gets a proper haircut

I do worry how Gallagher would manage the step up.

Villa's Injury said he was a bullshitter so I don't know what to think.

Is the Footy clan still holidaying with Unai? It would be great to know what Unai really thinks of Gallagher.

Gallagher has an obvious affinity for Chelsea having come through the ranks there and now captained the side.

They might have their own FFP concerns but if the player himself doesn't want the move we prob shouldn't be going all out to persuade him. Plenty of energy and all the rest of it. But not enough quality on the ball. And the energy side of things can't banked on if his heart's not really in it.

Dougie is different gravy.

Probably sounds too Irish for Footy's taste. He'd be on the lash in Dublin with SJM every other week.

I’ve got no qualms if we sign Galagher, he was the best player on the pitch in at least two of the games where we played them last season

I had a little dig at Gallagher in the pre-match thread before he curled one in from 20 yards in the 2-2. Won't be doing that again if he doesn't sign.

Hope he does.

Hasn't stopped him running his contract down to it's last year.
