Gallagher has been shite for years , ok he had a good few weeks under Poch but £50m!! Nah . Cantwell MkII for sure .

What is this link with Gallagher & Cantwell that you keep mentioning?

The only similarity is in the hair cut...

Cantwell is an attacking midfielder. A shit one, but you would class him as a number 10.

Gallagher is a box to box midfielder. An average one, but you would class him as a number 8.

They have fuck all similarities any more than Rogers & McGinn do as players...

It's funny how it's all in the haircut.

I thought Gallagher was sensational at Palace and finally looked to be getting back to that form at Chelsea in recent months. But £50m with 1 year left on his contract seems way too high. Unless we can similarly inflate Duran's exit fee, I would be holding fire on this.

The fee is silly tbh.

Even if I agreed with a lot of peoples view on the player, which I respectfully do not, £50M with one year left on his contract is utterly ridiculous & we should not be helping a rival with their financial troubles.

Especially if it means that we end up with an average footballer who runs around a lot kicking people, but has a questionable touch.

I wouldn't want Villa to pay £50M for Gallagher even if he was still on a 5 year year contract, never mind with only a year left...

I feel like Chelsea have been fairly obvious with the Gallagher situation for a while. They want to offload him because he's home grown and it benefits them more than selling other players. I'd assume any decent club would be aware of this and not be held to ransom by them.

Yeah, I don't think Emery's 'we have to be clever' meant spunking £50m on the first player we catch sight of.

I don't think we can look at Luiz and Gallagher as like for like replacements. Gallagher is more like competion for McGinn who is an important part of the way we play, and our form suffered when he was knackered and needed a rest, suspended or injured. Much better to have him and Gallagher playing 30 games a piece than McGinn playing 50 and sitting out 10.

Barkley would compete with Tielemans for a spot next to Kamara, who would still need replacing.

As good as Luiz is when on form, he picks up too many yellow cards and is prone to spells of poor form. With his contract running down I can see why we would sell this season.

As for Gallagher as a player, he is a fine player and would improve us. Chelsea fans are not happy about him going, and as bad as they were by their standards last season, they still had a points haul that would have seen them finish above us every season bar this one for the last decade or more. He was the captain, and one of their best players and it would a big statement.

Regards Duran heading the other way, I am not that bothered. He looks like a potential superstar, but is clearly a pain in the arse to manage. Reminds me of Balotelli.

We would still need a kamara replacement though surely

I think this is the kind of window where holding your nerve will pay off. In an inflationary environment it makes sense to buy now before prices go up. But I reckon prices will be deflated by everyone else's FFP constraints. Some sellers (like Chelsea) will be desperate to move people on. A little patience could very well pay off as the season gets closer.

I'm not so sure it is that inflationary a market, or if it is, it won't be for long. I think the English clubs have, looking at Forest and Everton, got the message that they need to take PSR more seriously, so we'll see far fewer deals.

Saw the same in the January window, which was almost dead, nobody was out waving piles of money around anymore.

Rumours Mattéo Guendouzi wants to join Villa and Emery wants him.

I was excited about him last year not so sure now.

Clubs that have June as their year-ends, like us, may be in a rush to get sales done before July to help the accounts.

Yes, I think it's safe to say that we would want at least that.

I'm surprised he didn't join us last summer when he was available, I cant say I watched much of him this year but going on the past, he'd be much better value than Gallagher.
