That “article” is just cobbling together a whole load of old rumours and repackaging.

I think it depends if Unai and Monchi want to do major surgery or more gradual evolution. Major surgery probably requires selling a big name. But I personally think there’s also lot we could do with a cull of non-contributors who they don’t rate. Chambers, Carlos, Coutinho, Donk, Tim, Sanson, Langlet and  Zaniolo could be replaced by two signings and everyone else getting fit for instance.

I saw a tweet the other day that I was quite impressed by, wherein the bloke had come up with a list of 18 we could let go that could be adequately replaced by 5 new players (that he also listed). Can’t recall it verbatim but it made a lot of sense (to me at least).

I do think a lot of people over-estimate what we’d get for unwanted players though. PSR times are hard for a lot of clubs, as we saw in January.

I think this in bold is probably the most difficult thing with any conversation over selling players but it's not something we necessarily need to worry about just yet.

For people who we'd happily let go and not really have to worry about what we get back such as Hause, Chambers, Olsen, Dendoncker(ish), Coutinho(ish) I think moving them on isn't about creating profit on amortised value but rather on freeing up wages. Add the already gone Sanson, Zaniolo and Lenglet and I'd be surprised if you haven't taken £25m a year off the wage budget without really weakening the squad by much. Add that to the extra income from sponsors, prize money and Europe and account for 4 or 5year contracts for signings and I think we have scope to add 2-3 for a combined fee of £50-60m and the comparible wages that come with it without really needing to care about sales.

Because of that we can afford to be a bit bolder with sales, If we want to move Carlos on, for example, we can hold out for at least £15-20m because he's not so terrible we need to sell him this window so why should we take a loss. The same applies to a few others as well so whilst we might not get something like £100m for Luiz we don't have to sell him for less either.

For a little background, the Grauniad shares its view on the Championship contenders for Premier League football next season not in the 3 promoted sides.

For all you fans of people who like a bit plane spotting, there’s been “unusual level of movement” between Milan and BHX, including  significant people from Villa apparently.

Dumfries coming? Duran going? Should people get a life?

TheTrees on Villatalk used to be good for this info, dunno if he does it anymore. Haven't been on there this decade.
That the lad who works in Air Traffic Control . Used to track Lerner's jet.

Blimey that’s reminded me of the photos of Ole Solskaer’s shoes.

Tomorrow's back page:

STUFF YOUR WORLD CUP

Football's top leagues and player unions will today join forces to tell Fifa: "We will not play in your Club World Cup — you’re killing the game" (@MartinLipton).

Plus - Aston Villa are braced for new Liverpool boss Arne Slot to launch a bid for Ollie Watkins (@JakeSanders92).

Every player has his price. I would take £150m, not a penny less

My gaffer - a Glasgow based Celtic fan - reckons there’s talk up there of Matt O’Riley coming down to Villa.

Liverpool who have got Salah, Jota, Gakpo, Diaz and Nunez are going to try to buy another forward for £100m+, and it's going to be our forward and we're going to let them?

Chinny reckon.

The article suggests as a replacement for Nunez.

If we are going to consistently play in the Chumps League we will need to invest in our squad every season, you cannot afford to stand still.  There is significant new revenue available next season with the Adidas, Betano and the CL money coming in.  We really need to get top 4 again next year to allow that money to affect our PSR standing and allow for major squad/infrastructure improvements.
Last season showed that our squad wasn't deep enough to provide the support for the lengthy injuries we sustained, you can make do for a few matches but not for a few months.  RB, DM, CF are all areas of concern unless Nedeljokovic can slot in sooner than expected.
It's a big summer and I sincerely hope the doom mongers are wrong about the PSR as we have the makings of an excellent squad with the addition of 3 or 4 more players.

He is excellent up in Scotland & at 6'2", he could have the physicality to work well in the Prem...
