If it benefits the Villa, I'm all for anything. If it doesn't, down with that sort of thing.

Too right. No point being holier than thou in mid table (or worse). I want us to cement our place at the top table before the drawbridge truly gets pulled up. And it’s coming. As soon as foreign owners are in the majority the game will change beyond recognition. I want to be inside that tent.

The first club in Brazil to break racial and class segregation, the club of Vavà, Edmundo, Romario, a 'good staging post'.

If it benefits the Villa, I'm all for anything. If it doesn't, down with that sort of thing.

Boomer vibe.

When we sell Coutinho for £100m and have a crack at the Premier League title, we can pause and reflect at the maybe bad thing we did. For a few seconds anyway. Maybe. I'm not committing to it though.

Very bought-my-house-in-Camden-in-1970. The One Musketeer attitude, all for me and me for f**king nobody.

I dont think that analogy really works, but I'll go with it. This is competitive sport. I couldn't give a fuck about the other 91 or senses of fair play, I want trophies, limbs like at Arsenal, Tarquins crying, European adventure, Noses desolate, an absolute lifelong galatatic reign of Claret and Blue and if this helps us on the way- good.

I wish nothing but ill on all other 91 Football League clubs, with particular curses and evil upon about 10 of them. I just note the word 'competitive' there and, well, let's just leave it to simmer.

It is competitive, which ever cynical knife you use to carve it. That we've sliced into where we are is remarkable and I'm perfectly comfortable with blunting everybody else's aspirations until the idea of competing with Aston Villa is illusionary. If this deal gives us a a leg up, good. I'm not too bothered about "sporting colonialism" draining talent to the metropole centre; it's not an exchange of violence for cash/resources- it's players and it's been happening for 30 years anyway, just not to Aston Villa's benefit.

For historical accuracy we could have looked at an Argentinian side, but that is more my appreciation for hisotrical symmetry.

Apologies for not knowing Vasco’s role in the recent social history of Brazil. It’s an advantage that they’re a ‘good egg’ but I’m sure the telling point for our owners, should there be anything in it, is that they’re a stand out name in S.A footballing circles and are currently a depreciating asset so can be purchased for a reasonable fee.

One of the best freekick takers of the 21st century would have been worth a mention as well.

Whatever Villa do won't change the trends of global sport and economics, it's just depressing that we're involved.

It's not a breaking point or anything. It's not being bought by the Saudis, something that would genuinely make me not support the Villa anymore (on I think the perfectly sensible grounds that a Villa that exists just as a propaganda vehicle for the worst people in earth would be a Villa that, on essence, doesn't exist at all). But it doesn't make it any good either.

Not particularly calling anything out, but how would we know if Maguire has knowledge on Villa or not? Not saying he does or doesn’t, but rather I’d like to understand what it is that says the situation differs to his view.

I heard him on a pod quoting out of date figures from our accounts. I just thought ‘you haven’t really put much effort into this have you?’

Yes, I see this from him too. He very much gives the impression that he's skimmed the figures rather than actually taken the time to go through the accounts and understand the situation.

I would rather we buy Corinthians if we're going to buy a Brazilian club but I guess that doesn't fit with the 'V' thing.

We're heavily involved in THE most capitalist sport on the planet, where players are getting paid hundreds of thousands of pounds a week, clubs are owned by horrific murdering Middle Eastern wankers, £90 replica shirts are knocked up in far eastern sweatshops, and shirts are sponsored by the worst kind of fraudulent nefarious betting companies. You've either got to suck it all up and endure it, or knock your support on the head and follow your local non league club. NSWE buying a Brazilian club is way down the list of things to be getting angsty over in my opinion.

Nice crest and shirt, and preferable to Flamengo, but that's about it. Have been to the 'Clássico dos Milhões' couple of times but it'll always be Fluminense for me in Rio. Think someone here (Drummond?) has a Vasco shirt from a trip there.

I'm annoyed by all of it! Multi club ownership is just the latest bullshit. Like I say, not the red line that literally being bought by the Saudis would be, but it's just yet another damn thing. Surprised this is so difficult to understand.

It's hard to be particularly annoyed at it as it's been crushingly inevitable since probably around 1991 and the Premier League breakaway, along with the avalanche of other previously unthinkable things we now put up with.
