Pau Torres had a massive release clause, they're treated more as a negotiation tool than being taken literally. As far as I can gather, we've regularly had scouts at their games, with numbers and importance of the scouts increasing as the season's gone on. Not something to draw conclusions from, but interesting none-the-less in my view.

I guess the chances of having to pay the release clause depend on how many other teams are interested in him and how much they're prepared to pay. I'd say with Torres the fact that he only had a year left on his contract and the opportunity to work with Emery again meant it was done pretty quickly and easily.

For signings I'd like another centre mid to replace Donk as the alternative to Kamara, obviously they'd be the first choice for a big chunk of the season and would give us chance to not rush him back and still give Tim games.

I wonder if that's the position that we look to just bring in a body as cheaply as possible to give us another option there. It's hard to see a player that puts either Luiz or Kamara out of the team that would be joining us, so it would be someone with the experience to come in when needed.

Brownhill at Burnley and Ndidi at Leicester would be the obvious ones who are out of contract this summer, but I'm not sure either of them are really an upgrade on Dendoncker.

I think a big name is more likely, I reckon he'd like to rotate in the midfield a lot more than he's been able to and I think how he's used the full backs and wide players is more indicative of how he wants things to work but in centre mid he's just not had the options to rotate as often as he'd like. I'm not sure but whatever happens it'll be someone much more comfortable in posession than Donk.

Varela looks like an Emery player to me so I can see exactly why we'd be interested.

If we’re signing a £60m player then someone fairly significant will be leaving the team I suspect.

Monchi has 800 scouts working for him so we should be able to find somebody half-decent.

Agree.  Can't see us spending anywhere near that much on one player.  Think we might be in for one or two signings like Kamara and Tielemans who are out of contract.

The only grain of comfort we can gain from our horrific injury list this year is that we have approx 150 million quid worth of players sitting in reserve already. Be like getting 4 new and established signings in the next transfer window.

I'm convinced that with a full squad available this year we would of been challenging strongly for the title.

A good place to be with FFP stifling most clubs.

Retain our spine, buy an extra right full back, hire an extra physio and nurse and we are set for 2024 -2025.

Continuity is good and we are in a better position than most.

Agree.  With everyone returning, I can't really see us doing much over the summer, unless a few of the starting XI go. An upgrade on Dendoncker in central midfield is a must and we'll have to see how the young RB shapes up as that is another area that needs strengthening.

Mats Wieffer at Feyenoord for the defensive mid role. Had Liverpool sniffing around in Jan apparently. But that might change now with Klopp being away. Could do a lot worse than their RB Geertruida as competition for Matty Cash while we're at it.

Feyenoord have been on the up in recent years, Conference League runners up in 2021/22 and champions of Holland last year. Both have been key players in that rise.

I like an exotic player with a British first name, "His name's what?... Alan?!". Messi being called Clive would have been much better.

Lionel sounds pretty British, if you say it properly.

His parents wanted his initials to ooze class.

Some articles saying we're making progress signing Hermoso. Sounds like we've been working on him for the past few months and we're showing more keenness than anyone else. Italian clubs can't afford his pay demands and have turned to other alternatives. Supposedly more interested in the sporting project than going to Saudi Arabia for mega money.
