On the other hand if you’re a highly talented young Brummie who just wants to play for the Villa and isn’t driven by money, the best decision you could make would be to sign for another local academy. Make the mark in their first team and hope Villa come in and offer millions for you.

I think people need to realise that if there wasn’t a chance of these kind of deals, we wouldn’t be trawling the academies of the likes of West Brom and Derby for Tim and Omari, to name but two.

It will be interesting to see whether this farming of youth players continues once the PSR rules change.

On the one hand it is a bit of a shame, but on the other hand, we'll likely do the same thing. There's talk that we're trying to recruit West Ham's England U18 captain for instance.

And as our commercial operations grow, it might well be that we start buying up promising 18-20 year olds on multi-million pound signings. If you get it right, it can be very rewarding.

Given the numbers of kids in the Academy, and all the other academies around the country, this will happen.

Over the years we've seen loads move on, it's just that these days they are going for serious money, such is the quality of our academy.

Because they've had a game or two, they become more attractive to other clubs and as fans we think more of them.

There's rarely, if ever, an outpouring of grief, or regret, when we release others without fees or contracts; that's probably because there's less perceived value.

Has Duran priced himself out of a move and we suddenly needed a sale to plug the PSR hole?

Still £20m for a kid we’ve barely played is a decent bit of business as there’s no guarantee that he’ll make it and arguably less likely now at Chelsea.

On the face of it, looks like we’ve had to surrender Kellyman because of Duran's demands. Kellyman only started to be rumoured after Durans (issues) were mentioned. I’m not sure we wanted to sell Kellyman at all. But the clock was ticking

I can’t really see what’s not to like with this Kellyman deal, should it happen.

It's quite surprising given how much we got for Archer and Ramsey last summer, who had both impressed on loan other places. Does make you wonder if there aren't some creative maths being done behind the scenes, but if there's loopholes to be exploited, or Chelsea are still just really dumb, why not make the most of it.

Duran has irritated me and is clearly a massive whopper. But he's far more valuable in our squad than Kellyman. If we can get compliance and funds in from Kellyman, then it solves a problem of finding a back up to Watkins. It also means if he goes next year, it will be for higher than £40m and with a other year of amortised fee too.

Ultimately it comes down to how good Kellyman turns out to be. We’ll be laughing all the way to the bank or regretting it (and folks will no doubt blame the club for being so naive etc).. I know he’s extremely well thought of.

It's about what we do. Our goal is to establish ourselves in the top 4. If we do that, while he goes on to be Maradona, so be it, everybody wins. The only way Kellyman can help us with that objective, is by bringing in a good fee, not by what he might do in 2 or 3 years time.

For where we are right now though, it's a great deal. You just never know with some players. Look at Pogba as an example, he went for next to nowt and then was bought back again for £100m+.

Chuck was way better than Kellyman when we sold him and he's gone on to Chelsea to be the square root of fuck all

He got an injury last season, but it doesn't really make a difference if he'd been amazing. He wanted to go and we still qualified for the Champions League.

Too many sentimental types on here. Kellyman isn't getting a look in for us. He probably won't for Chelsea.

With the depth of Chelsea's squad hes not getting close to that first XI. And they also have all manner of players who are returning from loan elsewhere. Chelsea will just ship him out again.
