Will anyone else pay what we want for Duran, though? I can't see Duran ever being an Emery player. Early days but hopefully it happens.

In a weird way I think it makes our academy look even more attractive to young players from other clubs in that there is a pathway identified if you impress that you will either get around first team squad or sold on to good level clubs.

I really rate Duran, think he could be a £100 million player, but there's always the tiny suspicion he could self-destruct and not fulfil his potential. For the sort of money mentioned I'd be happy to see him go.

Hopefully if Kellyman us going to Chelsea that means we still have a chance of persuading Rory Wilson to stay. Based purely on the "Chelsea are going to sign a Villa youngster" links the other day and now it seemingly not being him.

Kinda true as each of these transfers will be life changing in terms of wealth which will be a priority for most players/parents/agents.

The danger is the academy will lose integrity which is harder to define.

Yeah, I really rate him as well but this man isn't taking on instruction any time soon. Hopefully he matures whilst still keeping his edge.

That "loss of integrity" doesn't seem to stop young players flocking to the Chelsea / Man City academies.

Why would you mention Kellyman in the same sentence as JJ and Rogers? The kid might be good enough in a few years; Rogers and JJ are good enough for Champions League football now, scoring goals in a top 4 side.

The financial landscape has changed and the level we're at has too.

The sale of Iroegbunam and Kellyman (and Archer, Philogene and Ramsey last season) perfectly illustrate one of the functions of the Academy system in the  Premier League - to raise money through the recruitment, development and sale of youngsters to generate profits to feed into FFP/PSR.

Chelsea and City have been doing it successfully for some time and given our current stature, where we have some way to go to match the top teams financially; I can see sales of Academy products forming part of our business model.

Much as we dislike the process, it a feature of the modern game that we're going to have to live with.

I think people need to realise that if there wasn’t a chance of these kind of deals, we wouldn’t be trawling the academies of the likes of West Brom and Derby for Tim and Omari, to name but two.

I agree, for me he if he goes there it’ll be interesting to see how he and Iackson develop alongside each other as I think they appear quite similar temperament wise.

I think there's a difference between a 15/16 year old  signing for an academy, and a 22/23 year old who has already broken into a team, then signing for someone like Chelsea or Man City. The young player will get top level coaching and then loaned out and sold to a club at a decent level. The older player goes to a club where they'll be a bit part player at best and their career will stall.
