Like, I'm not saying it definitely won't happen, but Juve do this all the time. Plus, this kind of swaps-on-valuations thing is such a classic attempt at a plusvalenze scam, for which they got docked a bunch of points a couple of seasons ago. Why would we help them do this for a downgrade in midfield?

Why would we help them at all?

McKennie in and Doug out would be rubbish whichever way you look at it.

The best way to look at it would be in games.

The club clearly aren't idiots. If there's a deal to be done that they feel is in the best interests of both the playing side and PSR, then they'll certainly consider it. It may be that Unai and Monchi have seen something in McKennie that they think they can work with, and that selling Luiz means they can keep everybody else like Ramsey.  Buying a player could always be considered "helping" another club in terms of giving them cash, but unless they're on a free transfer, there's not really any way to avoid that.

Depends which Doug we are selling, and which McKennie we are getting. Assuming 2024 post Jan Doug, then £60M is pretty much top of the value. 2023 Doug, add £30M at least.

I would be disappointed with less than a £40M  plus McKennie outcome. As I think would Villa. At which point I doubt it happens, but if it does we could book £60M to PSR and pay £20 over x years for McKennie, sign Barkley for bugger all and still have plenty of room to get a Kamara backup, a forward and a right back in. If this deal for example meant we could compete for an Olise or Eze then I would be tempted.

There was a lot of suspicion that Doug's new deal had a release clause in at the time. Because he was interested in the Arsenal deal, which the club turned down, yet he still signed. He would be going for free this summer had he not.

So there may be a clause, there may have been a gentleman's agreement that we would let him leave if signed and we get a fee.

But what we can't lose sight of is that this isn't a Benteke / Grealish type situation. Whether he stays or goes, we will progress. We aren't that weak anymore, either squad-wise or coaching-wise.

He did sign that extension quite quickly in the end so I would say there almost certainly is a release clause of some description. I think Arsenal will be interested in him again too and other clubs. Jorginho and Partey likely to move on this summer. Juve link is a bit of an odd one and I suspect not much in it.

Luiz had some poor games at the back end of the season but for me he's the most talented player in the squad and one of the best CMs in the division. Tielemans or Barkley don't have a fraction of his dynamism so he would be a big loss. Maybe not as a big a loss as Martinez or Watkins, mind.

I think Jorginho signed on for another year towards the end of the season.

Why would doug be going there is my question. They've finished 3rd and have no manager, doesn't make sense to me

Firstly nobody has the slightest clue what is or isn't in Luiz's contract. He left his options open until the last minute before signing it & he may do the same again. Having qualified for the Champions League with us there won't be many clubs who could turn his head & even less who could afford him.

McKennie has been linked to us over the past 3 summers & looked shite at Leeds. It all sounds a bit desperate from Juve in an attempt to move him on.

But if the club thinks we can sell Luiz & improve the squad, then I'm confident they know what's best.

Third is their best finish in five years though, and Thiago Motta (who looks like he's going to be great) will be their manager by the end of the week.

If DL is smart (or more likely his agent) he'll use any interest from other clubs to get a better deal with us.

When he signed his last extension he wasn't even a guaranteed starter.

The Douglas Luiz of 2024 is - after Martinez - prob our most important player. And just played a key role in us securing CL football. Any new deal should reflect that.

It would also give us a chance to increase any release fee if there is one.

That sounds like both bad management and bad typing!
